Priority Prayer Focus Oct 15, 2014

These first two prayer letters will give you a better understanding of how sharing the faith of Yeshua often differs in Israel, the Jewish state, than in the nations.  It is the life lived that attracts seekers in Israel, more than messages preached.  The apostle Paul spoke of the Holy Spirit anointing that was different in its working. 

 Galatians 2:8 (For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles).  Acknowledging this truth allows us in the international church to be helpers of these believers in Israel, sharing their faith effectively – more effectively than we ever could.

This week most of the prayer letters that came in are from smaller ministries in Israel.  Larger ministries have more ability to gain support among the nations but ALL of the ministries are important.  Each has their own realm of assignment from the LORD to reach their neighbors.  Oh, for the day when the Body in the nations comes alongside of the brethren in Israel as it is written!

Strategically Aimed for the Lord’s Harvest in Israel

A unique opportunity was presented to Rachel and Gilad Netanel’s ministry which is in Ein Karim just outside Jerusalem.  Rachel writes, “Every year Israel chooses certain houses in Israel based on their unique character to be part of the national ‘open’ house days where people from all over the Land come to see the places that are listed.  Our house, Beit Netanel has gained a certain notoriety in Israel because it has been on the news regarding the battle we have had with the Muslim authorities (Waqf) and because it is was built from an ancient cave.  So, praise the Lord, we have been chosen again this year.”

During these tours of the house she explains, “This cave is over 800 years old and because of my faith in Yeshua, I wanted to create an atmosphere that would be reminiscent of the time of Yeshua.  I created a design that was suitable to the times of Yeshua and also John the Baptist who was traditionally raised in this town.  

“When my story was told to the Ministry of Tourism, they sent journalists and photographers to the house from different countries in the world (including Italy, England, America, Russia, France and India.)  They asked a number of questions about how I knew what was under all of the rubble before I dug it out and how I went about all of the renovations.  This opened the door for me to share about Yeshua and my vision on how to create a home that would bring back the times that Yeshua grew up in.  I wanted to demonstrate that contrary to what many Israelis think, He was a Jew and lived in Israel all of His life. They were excited to listen to me and felt that this was something very unique.”

The day of the “Open House” was September 19^th and almost 600 people came to tour the house that day. Taking groups of 25-30 through at a time, others waited to tour in the garden and were served tea and were able to browse books, Bibles and were hosted by Gilad.  One of the religious neighbors did not take kindly to all this and has threatened to make big trouble for the Netanel’s – and in fact, already has when a delegation from the Waqf came about building a wheelchair accessible bridge to the house. This neighbor came out screaming threats and curses – the Waqf were very alarmed and have not returned since.  Pray that the LORD would have His hands on this. Having at along last won the court case with the Waqf, now please join them in prayer that the religious Jewish neighbor will not become the spoiler.

Ruth Nessim is a special encouragement to me as she goes about Israel doing good equally to all in her path – Arab or Jew.  It is the simplicity of living a godly life that is recorded in the book of Acts, where Luke summarized Yeshua’s earthly ministry by saying that He “went about doing good” (10:38).  This is the witness that opens hearts to hear about the faith of believers in Israel and although in the thinking of many in the international Church that it is just too simple, this is the way God has moved on so many in the community of faith to sow the seeds of the Gospel.

Anyone who reads Ruth’s prayer letters will become acquainted with several recurring characters in her story of ministering from Nahariya, on the far northern border with Lebanon.  There is ABDM, an Arab in the Palestinian territories who is seriously ill;  an Arab plumber who was touched by Christian teachers in his childhood; an Arab taxi driver who remembers her no matter how many months go by since he saw her last and loves the bible videos she has blessed him with; and her Jewish Holocaust survivor friends who Ruth always asks prayers for the testimony they have heard to bear fruit among.  If His eye is on the sparrow, we know His eye is on those who follow in His footsteps who are “going about doing good” in His name.  Please read more from Ruth’s prayer letter inside the attached PDF Weekly Summary.

Orna Greenman has a small ministry called Ot Oo’Mofet, A Sign and a Wonder, a prophetic scripture taken from Isaiah 8:18, “Behold, I and the children whom the LORD has given me are for signs and wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, who dwells on Mount Zion.”  Her ministry is to orphans, widows and single parents in the body of Messiah in Israel.

Orna writes, “The past couple of months have been filled with much training, mostly of young adults. This is an interesting enlargement of the ministry of Ot OoMofet. So far, our work was mostly targeted at the restoration of the widowhood of Israel. Now it seems like the Lord is recruiting us to invest into the orphanhood of the children of Israel. Sounds like a logic enlargement, but somehow I never looked into the orphanhood of my nation, until the Lord started opening my eyes to it.”

“The war in Gaza, the 3 weeks I spent this summer in Germany - it is all connected with this new insight. So these days I am developing a training program, together with my elders (at the Kfar Saba Wellspring congregation) , designed for the next generation of young leaders. I am truly excited about it.”

Shlomy Abramov of Awake Israel ministries spoke at the China Israel conference recently and it was among many opportunities to share the gospel in the past month.  They also launched the humanitarian center in their city, Rishon le Zion.  A short list of prayers, that I’m sure many of the smaller ministries would say “amen” to:

‘Please pray that we as a body walk in the true light and not in the flesh of jealousies and completion as is written. Pray backbiting cease and a right spirit prevail, the Holy Spirit.

Pray for a sincerity and true brotherly love to return to the fellowship of brotherhood in the land. We seem to be encountering the need for that more. pray against an elitist spirit (I am better than you) that wants to invade as well. 

Pray for the little guy on the block, those who don’t have so much money for ministry but labor fearfully and faithfully; to grow in wisdom and strength and nothing stands in Gods’ way and please pray against hindering spirits attacking us every time we advance the kingdom in Israel.

Pray those who received the gospel be saved. Pray for our witness to be bold and fruitful. pray for a pure bride to prepare herself as time is short and Messiah will return.

Succat Hallel, which is a 24/7 prayer and praise house in Jerusalem has moved its location in Jerusalem.  They write about the trip to Erbil, Iraq and to a town in Turkey not far from the besieged Kobani, Syria that two of their staff just returned from. One is a Messianic Jew and the other an Arab Christian.  We have not shared much about this trip because of the obvious dangers to them, but we have been getting great reports from them – and one not so great report when it was time to leave Turkey and protests shut down flights!  Pray for the believers in Israel, who are not content to minister only within the country, but also as opportunities emerge, to go out to be a witness among their Arab neighbors caught in the Islamist dominion battles raging in the Middle East.
