I loved what Howard Bass wrote in the beginning of his prayer letter this time because many times over the past 15 years of doing Israelprayer I have fielded my own 'complaint' department about what I put in the prayer letter (or what I don't!). Bass wrote:  "Some of you want only prayer points; some want primarily congregational news; others want to know what I might think or understand. As a famous U.S. president once said: You can please some of the people some of the time, but you cannot please all of the people all of the time. So, for better or worse, I send out what seems to be on my heart and mind at the time, and which I hope gives encouragement in the truth of our faith and also for prayer."

This is the point, isn't it? We read through these prayer letters to see whose expressions our spirits resonate with, so we can really get into agreement with those ministries.  To me, the Israeli ministries are like different kinds of music genres: I like all types of music, not just one kind and same with these different Israeli ministries - they are all making the music of heaven, as far as I'm concerned.

Howard shares his thoughts on the how Purim, Easter and Passover are strangely off this year, and also some evidence that the name 'Easter' is not derived from Ishtar.  He also shares "my comments about the Larnaca Statement here."  Howard doesn't shy away from controversial ground, argues his case respectfully and is always thought-provoking. He also has a statement and some videos on his conviction that Biblical Zionism will continue to come under increasing attack as the Balfour Declaration approaches its 100th anniversary in Nov 2017. In the USA we are in an incredibly important election, not only for our own nation, but also for Israel and the nations of the world. There is no doubt left after Obama's presidency, that the person who sits in the White House has a profound negative or positive effect on the world. Which is why I take to heart the call of Asher Intrater this week in his writing Anointing Oil for the Head of Government.  "There is a subtle dynamic between our spiritual faith communities and the governments leading our society. One day Yeshua, as King Messiah, will take over the kingdoms of this world.  In the meantime we are called to be a positive godly influence within our societies, through prayer, moral example and actions of social justice."  Click title to read in full

Revive Israel also gives us a recap of the Tikkun and Gateways Beyond meetings held last week - their ministries Board and the Gateways discipleship team.  Asher also shares about terror that hits very close to home - even when it strikes in Turkey. His daughter works for the small "foodies club" that terrorists followe from their hotel to the shopping district in Istanbul where they blew themselves up murder 4 and injuring 40.  Not only has Israel called her citizens out of Turkey, but so has the USA - a move we don't often see in a US administration playing dumb about Islamist terrorism. Honestly, because I also follow Ron Cantor of Messiah's Mandate on Facebook, I seriously suspect his middle name is Ron Prolific Cantor!  Ron is a great communicator in many mediums and here are a few of the things he has put out over the last week: I am shocked at Pastor Robert Jeffress’ Comments! ; "Why is Paul Always Contradicting Himself?" Heart of God Ministry, Carolyn and Richard Hyde open with Richard asking, "How many of you have been disappointed in how things have turned out - be it a family event, a project at work or even ministering before a congregation?  That's what happened to me."  Recent plans made for their ministry in France and Germany went awry, but in the end God showed He had the end of the story in His hands. You will enjoy reading about their experiences and also what God did that only He can do.  There is also an invitation for a unique experience in their home for those who are visiting Israel. A few days ago a friend shared with me a video that the Hyde's son, Ariel, shot for the prayer group she is part of in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  It is such a delight to see the second generation Messianic believers who are running with the gospel in Israel with such great joy. Rachel Boskey of David's Tent tells us that hubby Avner, along with son David and his wife Jamie are off to the USA for the first three weeks of April. Rachel writes that in the last 6 weeks "Avner and I have ministered at a number of gatherings and conferences in various parts of Israel (in the far north, in Jerusalem and south of Beersheva), in addition to our weekly worship and prayer meetings, our weekly Bible studies and hosting guests in our home (from Norway, Canada, Spain, the US, the UK). We have both been connecting with Arab believers at events here in the land and rejoice in the deep love and true fellowship we experience as we join with them for the Lord’s purposes." If you get a chance to see the Boskey's during April - grab it!

From the Beit Hallel congregation in Ashdod, Israel Pochtar is delighted with an "announcement of victory and breakthrough regarding our building project! Through the generosity of our partners and the grace of God, we have raised all the needed finances and have officially purchased our new building. Hallelujah! We finally have our very own church building! Thank you Lord!"

Ownership of congregational properties is so key in Israel for the believers who have suffered being ejected from rental facilities when landlords were targeted by anti-messianic activists.  Sally Shiff who is the lead intercessor and liaison for the HaMaayan congregation in Kfar Saba is in the US on an emergency trip to make new living arrangements for her elderly mother who has begun to deteriorate with Alzheimer's.  She writes, "I never realized how emotionally and physically draining this can be, and want to be there for my family." Please remember her, and the congregation in her absence.

Orna Greenman of A Sign & A Wonder also  writes a brief note to say she has a new blog up that will make it easier for her to share-on-run as "God continuously enlarges our boundaries through new projects, and through hearts that thirst to behold His glory clothed upon painful places in their lives. I have so many beautiful and exciting stories to share with you."

The Arad Hasdey Yeshua (Mercy of Yeshua) congregation in Arad writes about a great opportunity they recently had to instill in their young people to possess a servant's heart - just like the heroine of the Purim feast, Esther possessed.  You can read about it "The Tomato Story" inside the attached DOCX Weekly Summary. 

They also alert us to a pressing prayer need: "There’s a war going on for the city of Arad. An article appeared in the newspaper Israel HaYom on 25th March which described Arad as a 'powder keg' ready to explode." The problem is that a "particular group of ultra-orthodox has been seeking control over the city, sometimes resorting to illegal activities."  They ask prayer for the situation there and special covering for the mayor, Nisan Ben Hamo " because the war, at least on a physical level, is directed at him.:  They are concerned about the safety of this mayor and his family - as well as the Messianic community in Arad who have often been targeted by this religious group over the years.

Praying the Headlines

Martin Sarvis in Jerusalem writes about "Eagles of Life and Eagles of Death" inside the attached Weekly Summary. An excerpt: 

"Eagles of Death  |  This week it was confirmed that the California rock band Eagles of Death Metal has scheduled itself to perform in Hanger 10 Tel Aviv on September 5th.  The band performed in Israel last July.  It was four months later on November 13th that  it gained world-wide notoriety when, at the Bataclan Theatre in Paris, the darkness its lead singer called for was suddenly manifest in a terrible way.  As they sang “Who’ll love the devil? Who’ll sing his song?  Who’ll love the devil and his song?  Who’ll kiss the devil?  Who’ll kiss his tongue?...I’ll love the devil!  I’ll sing His Song!  I’ll kiss the devil…”—as the frenzied sold-out audience joined in and sang along, many waving a “devil’s horn” gesture with their fingers, shots suddenly rang out.  Within the next half hour death reigned in the hall as Islamist terrorists with machine guns, grenades and bomb-belts wrecked carnage among the revelers. In the end, the hall was awash in blood, eighty-nine were slain, over 350 injured."

On Monday, one day before the appalling attack in Brussels, I participated in a five-hour session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva and heard hundreds of speakers spew anti-Semitic, obsessive, inaccurate condemnations of Israel. I will never forget this experience. It felt to me as if, ideologically, the railway lines are being laid once again in Europe to send us back to the ovens of Auschwitz. Beginning on Wednesday evening, the holiday that came from the events in the Biblical Book of Esther begins. Our friend in Jerusalem, Martin Sarvis writes, "It is unfortunate that Purim has come to be generally regarded in Israel as a minor holiday for children.  We bless the children, certainly—but for their very sake we believe it important that we take seriously all of the message of this season.  We encourage you to join with us in doing so!  Read through the Book of Esther.  Ask the Lord to illumine its message for us today.  Perhaps He will lead you to join together with us in the fast. Ron has more news from the ministry/congregation inside the attached DOCX Weekly Summary including this exciting news: "With the growth of our congregation, Ari and Shira Sorko-Ram, who lead our parent ministry, Maoz Israel, have offered to buy us live-streaming equipment. We will be the first congregation (I think) to stream a live Messianic service in Hebrew to the eight million Hebrew speakers in our country. This has tremendous potential as Israelis, who may not be willing to come to a service, can secretly, like Nicodemus, investigate the gospel online."

Daniel and Shirya Yahav lead what may be the largest congregation in Israel up in the Tiberias region. We don't hear from them often, but when we do their news cup runneth over! This report is no exception and we have taken excerpts from the whole in order to give you a super report of how this congregation operates.  There is also a very challenging word in the beginning based on Exodus 25 - at least it was challenging to this reader! 

The message brought out the fact that when the "children of Israel were a nation of slaves in Egypt, who owned nothing of any value. However, when they finally left, following the ten plagues, they had collected donations of gold, silver and fine clothes from their Egyptian neighbors. This was the first time they had ever owned anything beautiful or valuable in their lives. (Exodus 12:35)"

So when Moses put out God's call for voluntary donations in order to build the Tabernacle, " Each one had to decide whether they were willing to give of their newly acquired treasures, or keep everything to themselves. Many gave joyfully and willingly, understanding that it was an opportunity to offer a spiritual offering to the Lord, an opportunity to be part of something greater that had value beyond the plain gold or silver or precious items they donated."  Does it speak to you as it did to me? The Revive Israel ministry letter last Friday contained several teachings and words on the news (see Betty Intrater's comment of the terrorist murder of American Taylor Force in Jaffa in Praying the Headlines, and get the link to Dr. Daniel Juster's Destined to be ONE an excerpt from The Identity of the Church: The Body of Messiah.

Juster writes: "The destiny of the Church is tied to the destiny of Israel, a joint destiny. The destiny of Israel is also tied to the destiny of the Church. The people from the other nations that are joined to the Body are also joined to the heritage of the Jewish people, as their spiritual ancestry. Therefore we could say in a short form that the Church is those from the nations who have joined themselves to Israel, the Jewish people, and its destiny for the sake of the redemption of the world."

Dov Bikas who leads the Aviv Center ministry writes about how they are connecting with 6 rehabilitation centers across Israel who partner with them on the work. Tel Aviv is the main area of ministry, but the addicts and prostitutes they work with enter into these rehab ministries far from those Tel Aviv streets where they are perishing.  This may be the hardest ground of all to pluck people out of the fire and get them set upon the rock. From Guy Cohen in Acco, the Harvest of Asher congregation, we learn that rather than serving the community with a Passover Sedar, this year they will provide food coupons through the local municipality.  If you would like to help them do so, Acco is a very poor community that could really use this blessing.  You can read more of the congregational prayer requests and updates inside the attached DOCX Weekly Summary

Eddie Santoro, who continues to regain strength following brain surgery for a cancerous tumor, gives a glowing report of recent event at the congregation he pastors in Jerusalem, Ahavat Yeshua, as well as events with international representatives coming to worship and prayer together with Israeli Messianics at Revive Israel. 

At one meeting with nearly 80 Chinese believers, Eddie writes, "The Chinese pastor spoke passionately about the revelation he had received concerning God's heart of love for the Jewish people, encouraging everyone to open their hearts to this same revelation. After that, we as the Jewish representatives blessed them and thanked them for their prayers for the salvation of Israel and then in a mighty culmination, the might and power of Chinese intercession was loosed and the entire gathering broke out into a glorious wave of prayer and blessing towards us."

Among many other good reports, Eddie also shared about the premier of Jacob Damkani's new documentary, "The Messenger" which is the story of his life and ministry. "Yacov is one of Israel's foremost evangelists and has given his life to spreading the gospel to his beloved nation. Yet again the fever pitch about terrorism has risen as another major multiple blast terror attack has taken place and nations begin to scramble to attempt to run this cell of terrorists to ground. European nations are all on alert.  It will not be long before everyone is lulled back to sleep by those in high places who refuse to counter the terrorism that is threatening the world. We must gain strength from the example of Israel, who has been in this existential war since its 1948 re-birth. We must unite with Israel and each other in order to defeat this enemy. Pray for Israel - and for your own nation too.

More Terror Attacks by Betty Intrater for Revive Israel

Taylor Force was a West Point graduate who served 5 years in the Army including stints in Afghanistan and Iraq. But his military background was of no help when facing Israeli style warfare. He was fatally attacked while on vacation in Jaffa, walking with friends along the boardwalk. A young Palestinian armed with a knife stabbed him to death at a time when danger did not seem imminent.

This is the type of warfare Israelis face regularly. It is a kind of Russian roulette. You can't prepare for it or know when it will appear. You simply look over your shoulder, try to be observant, pray and hope for the best.

Many in the international community do not realize that there is a high level of integration of Jews and Arabs in Israeli society. Israeli Arabs who have full citizenship for the most part live at peace and integrate with their Jewish neighbors. Palestinian Arabs who live in the territories work in Israeli cities. In many cases they are valuable and trusted employees.

Taylor Force was not aware that the enemy in Israel is not clearly marked with a different style uniform standing on the other side of a barbed wire fence. He is within and can strike any time.

The Israeli Messianic Marketplace  Feature of the Week:

CHRIST AT THE CHECKPOINT by Shira Sorko-Ram of Maoz Ministries The fourth biannual "Christ at the Checkpoint" conference opened in Bethlehem on March 7-10. If you haven't heard of it, you can read Shira's article featured in one of the Maoz Israel Reports outlining what the conference is about.  In a few words, it is an evangelical Christian gathering that embraces Replacement Theology and seeks to end the "Israeli occupation" of Palestinian territory.

The conference's stated goal is “to challenge Evangelicals to take responsibility to help resolve the conflicts in Israel/Palestine by engaging with the teaching of Jesus on the Kingdom of God.” This “responsibility” includes renouncing Christian support for Zionism (the Jewish goal of reviving their ancient nation). CATC says this support causes injustice. 

The conference proclaims support of Israel’s right to exist, but only if Israel acknowledges Palestinian claims to the land. Christians are told that it’s a theological error to justify Jewish ownership of any part of Israel based on Bible promises. (Kehila News, 7Mar2016)

Please PRAY against any damage that might be caused to the body of Messiah around the world because of this conference. PRAY for the Holy Spirit to open the eyes of all attendees regarding Israel today and her place in the plan of God for all mankind.

After facing great opposition to the Gospel in several cities in Turkey, Acts 14 says the apostles Barnabas and Paul nevertheless "made many disciples" and they revisited those cities "strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying, "Through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God."

Let us continue to hear these words of encouragement even in times of opposition and hardships so we may also enter the kingdom of God in our time.

In the past we have seen several Christian communities in the nations attempt to live communally in an Acts Pattern but eventually all of them petered out. Perhaps it is because the pattern in Acts is a pattern that was meant to be re-established in the place where it was first established - Jerusalem - in an appointed time before spreading again outward in the nations. It is a thought I had that you might stash in the back of your mind as you read Asher Intrater's article, Acts Pattern.

One of the prayer requests in the Revive Israel ministry letter last Friday was for the premier in Tel Aviv last night of a movie produced by Israeli evangelist, Jacob Damkani called "The Messenger".  Today on Facebook Jacob has posted how thrilled he was with the premier and promised to give more detail soon. Speaking of Facebook, if you are on FB you really should follow Revive Israel.  Right now for example, they are sharing short video clips from the spiritual gathering they are doing right now in Jerusalem with Gateways Beyond-Cyprus and the Tikkun-US nonprofit Board, plus other ministry partners. Have to tell you, I have been greatly blessed from the clips so far.

Evan Levine of the HaTikva Project in Jerusalem opens his monthly ministry letter with a prayer request about the terror attacks: "Over the last several months the terror attacks on our nation have not ceased. We seem to be in the very center of chaos as we live and work in the Jerusalem area where most of the attacks are occurring. Last week a security guard whom we know personally was savagely attacked with an axe and left for dead in our shopping mall down the street from our home. He is still hospitalized and fighting for his life. Today as I write this I drove past the scene of another attack involving a firearm on my way to our clinic. Please pray for the Lord to strengthen our resolve, surround us with His angels, and put an end to these attacks!"

Evan also shares about the financial aid they are giving to the leaders of a small Messianic congregation in Jerusalem, Tree of Life, after the husband was involved in a serious car accident. The man was hospitalized for 3 weeks, has undergone 2 operations and undergoing treatments. Unable to work, loss of income has the family in financial crisis and the congregation they lead does not generate enough income for them to live off of.  The idea of HaTikva Project is to step in to lend the helping hand that many of the believers have in Israel. They also do outreach to unbelievers but most people in the nations do not really have a good grasp of how helping the believers as this ministry does is such a vital ministry within Israel.  Read more about the ministry and its future vision inside the attached DOCX Weekly Summary

Ben Juster, who is the Operations Director for Tikkun International in Jerusalem, sends us prayer requests for Israel - "wisdom for our leaders and spiritual revival for the Jewish people. We also pray for those innocent Palestinians and Arabs who are caught up in this horrible cycle of violence and repression resulting from these terrorists."

On the Tikkun-related ministries and leaders, Ben writes: "... the Tikkun US nonprofit Board will be meeting in Israel along with the leaders of Tikkun International, Tents of Mercy, and Revive Israel.  More than simply fulfilling the requirements for financial reporting and accountability, these meetings are intentional periods of seeking the Lord together, receiving new insights for Kingdom vision and strategy, and strengthening bonds of relationship ... many of which have spanned over 35 years!  Please join with us in prayer for these important gatherings and for God to release abundant wisdom and clarity for this season."  See other requests inside the attached DOCX Weekly Summary

Despite her fighting cancer and in treatment these last months, Ruth continues on spreading a good witness to those in her path of the LORD she serves with such cheer and openness to all. Avi Mizrachi has a great report on the money raised for their congregational building campaign inside the attached DOCX Weekly Summary. Commercial real estate in Tel Aviv has gone up 20% in the last year, so the original facility they had their eye on has exceeded their budget - so they are looking for God's best and ask prayers for that.  While they are seeking, they are focusing on their Distribution Center where they do outreach to the poor and needy families in Tel Aviv. They now have a full time person and a larger space to operate from.  Please read the report of how they are also placing a priority on helping Holocaust survivors in Israel. Some 220,000 remain in Israel, and you would be surprised to hear how Messianic ministries are truly making a large impact across the nation to so many of them.

Ronit Bender returns to the Carmel area after a blessed time in her former home of Perth, Australia. Everywhere this lady goes she is ministering the Good News of Messiah to the people she meets - whether the homeless man on the street or the young women in the hairdressing salon she visited. Now she is back in northern Israel preparing again to join the outreaches on the streets of Tel Aviv with drug addicts and prostitutes.  Read more of Ronit's running with God inside the attached DOCX Weekly Summary

Howard Bass has a glowing report of the ministry time in Kenya, which he found "... that God has already been working among the Kenyans while men sleep." Howard writes, "We met with church leaders in the three cities of Nairobi, Nakuru, and Mombasa. They were all open to the message, and challenged to work together towards its fruitfulness. We were very encouraged by the responses, and the questions were thoughtful, and they sought clarity on some key issues regarding identity, and of theological matters regarding Israel and the Church. I was a bit of a novelty for many of them: they had never met a Jew before, not to mention a Jew who believes in Jesus! I realized that I do not represent myself only, but rather the Lord, my people, my nation; and whatever impressions of me would reflect attitudes towards other Jews in general, and Messianic Jews in particular."  Isn't it true!

Howard also asked prayer "for the upcoming SAYF (Sitting at Yeshua's Feet) leadership prayer retreat, which takes place at Maagan on the eastern side of the Sea of Galilee, from Mar 29-31. Jewish, Arab, and other brothers serving the Lord together will gather in the truth of our reconciliation to God and to one another through the cross. The tensions between us are there, but the love of God motivates us."

The Chief Administrative Officer at the Jerusalem Institute of Justice, Lydia, writes about the JIJ Lone Soldiers outreach they have done for the past seven years in Jerusalem.  She writes, "When they are not on base, they rest uncomfortably, in a dormitory-setting with as many as six soldiers in a small room. They must pay for their own food and necessities. Separated unwillingly from their families, they have no relatives to call and maybe, cry with after a hard day, week and month. As for holidays, they can only hope someone will care enough to invite them into their home. Israel Pochtar of the Beit Hallel congregation in Ashdod and the Voice of Judah outreaches gives a list of the various outreaches they are doing during the festival of Purim which begins in the evening of March 23rd.  This ministry is always reaching outward in their community among Russian Jewish immigrants of which there are many across Israel. We have a great report in from the HaCarmel congregation in Haifa - as two in their leadership become first time grandparents - Mazal tov to Dani and LuAnne, and also to Peter and Rita.  Let the grandchild 'spoiling' begin!

Also David and Karen Davis report on their time in Mexico where David was treated for cancer at a Christian alternative treatment hospital called Oasis of Hope for seven weeks.  I was especially touched by Karen's reflections on becoming her husband's caretaker during his time of crisis.  Having experienced this too, I appreciated the things she spoke of for it is another level of becoming "a living sacrifice for the Lord, when every action, every simple act of service, becomes our worship unto Him." Amen! very touching. "The Messenger": A New Movie about the Life of Jacob Damkani

It happened last August 5, during his daily habit of going for an early morning swim. About a kilometer away from the shore of Tel Aviv, Jacob Damkani felt a strong, agonizingly sharp pain in his chest that lasted for around 10 seconds. For another minute he felt an increasingly strong pain taking over his left leg. Jacob fought for his life and by some miracle (literally speaking), with the last of his strength, he succeeded in reaching the shore and the operating room at Ichilov Hospital. He was suffering from a rupture of his aorta. During the eight-hour surgery, they sawed his chest open and repaired this major blood vessel over his heart.

All this happened after Jacob had finished work on his new film, “The Messenger” (“Ha-Mevaser” in Hebrew).

“I don’t make a connection between the operation I underwent and the film I produced,” said Jacob. “I just sing praises to God that He decided to keep me alive. I heard that 95% of those experiencing this medical emergency die from it – and in my case it even happened out at sea! He spared my life because I have not yet completed my mission.“  Read more online
