Shanah Tovah!
A Good Year! Rosh Hashanah 5772
The month of Elul is a time of repentance in preparation for the High Holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. According to tradition, it is a month to ask forgiveness and clear the spiritual debts between one another before coming before God to receive forgiveness from Him. This is a prophetic season appointed by God that relates to the salvation of Israel.  For this reason it is a time where Jewish hearts are particularly prepared for an awakening of God’s greatest gift of salvation in Yeshua.

In fact, the very name of the month of Elul is said to be an acronym of a particularly Messianic verse from the Song of Solomon, “I am my Beloved’s and my Beloved is mine.”  Song of Songs 6:3.  In Aramaic, which was the vernacular of the Jewish people at the time the month names were adopted, the word “Elul” means search.  How fitting it is then that our prayers for the Jewish people during these High Holy Days would be that the long search of Israel would be answered in this season by a revelation from God of His Messiah Son.

Priority Prayer Focus

Pray for a revelation of the Messiah to His people in these appointed seasons of God for Israel.

Before moving on the week ahead and the High Holy Days which are just beginning at sundown on Wednesday, here are a few highlights of the events at the UN last week.  The ministries are in a full speed ahead press for the holidays, so it may be a while before we get any official reports back from their perspective on UN events.  Until then here are my observations:

As expected, PA President Abbas submitted his bid for Palestinian statehood to the UN.  The UN Security Council will meet Wednesday Sept 27th to consider the bid although a month or more could pass before the Council votes.  In a major surprise, President Obama’s comments about the Palestinian statehood bid before the UN were surprisingly good and realistic.  PA President Abba’s address was filled will revisionist history, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke with a clear prophetic anointing in his role as Israel’s leader. First the prime minister addressed the sins of the UN Body calling it “the theatre of the absurd” and clearly spelling out how the UN calls evil ‘good’ and good ‘evil’.  Netanyahu also ended his speech by declaring over the Palestinians and Israelis the prophecy from Isaiah 9:2 The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.” Spiritually, I have to say I was tremendously lifted up and encouraged by what a prophetic sense I received from listening to the speech.  If you missed then it is really worth your time to watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebOsg9CCj6c

The Abbas and Netanyahu speeches were on Friday, September 23rd.  On the day before, the event we have been encouraging everyone to pray over took place in New York near the United Nations where the “anti-racism” Durban Council was getting underway.  The protest of this event, which Israeli Messianic attorney Calev Myers and the Jerusalem Institute of Justice played the lead role in organizing, Boycott Durban II took place.  Unfortunately, the American Jewish organizations kicked up a major fuss over a Messianic playing any role in the event and refused to join in the protest.   Christians slated to speak did so, however, the rally organizer Messianic Jew Calev Myers chose not to address the rally in a humble bid to keep the peace.  It did not bring out Jewish groups to support the rally. Instead they chose to prioritize Jews who believe in Jesus to be a greater enemy than the racist Durban III council members.

Across the world in Israel on the same day the founder of the anti-Messianic activist group, Yad L’Achim died.  We take no pleasure in the death of Rabbi Dov Lipshizt who was a dedicated “enemy of the gospel” leading the effort to relentless persecutes Israeli Jews who confess the name of Yeshua.  We take no pleasure in his death, yet could not help but see the timeliness of his passing in relation with the flap taking place in New York over the Messianic role in Boycott Durban III.

We believe that there has been a spiritual page turn and we need to realize that we are no longer in the first chapter of God’s plan of salvation for all Israel.  It is time to raise our expectations.  Yes, there is still intense religious resistance to the faith of Messianic Jews who believe in Yeshua - but that does not mean that the Jews are still "shut up together/enclosed" in unbelief by God. WE HAVE TO CHANGE OUR EXPECTATIONS to include the habit of Jewish resistance of the gospel beginning to fade and fall away!

The shift has begun in Israel and it will continue until it sweeps the whole Jewish world.

“This September 28th at sundown Jewish communities around the world will begin our celebration of Rosh Hashanah, a new year and the start of ten ‘Days of Awe,’ a period of reflection on the past year and a declaration of our hopes for the year ahead, concluding with the fast of Yom Kippur. “  David Lazarus in Jaffa shares key understandings of the season.

Asher Intrater thanks the leaders of the Boycott Durban III - By standing against the anti-Semitism of the conference, they broke its power. Durban has lost its standing and influence. Robert Stearns, Caleb Myers, and Mati Shoshani fulfilled what is said in Ezekiel 22:30 – "I sought for a man who would… stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land…" They did so and succeeded.
Inside the Weekly Summary this week we feature two short teachings by Asher, Deception in the End Times and the Kingdom in Daniel.

We also feature an excellent teaching by Howard Bass, Israel 2015: The Holy Spirit and The Messianic Body which is not yet available online.

Howard also asks for prayer for the Bible House, Ha-MaKoM, which is going through major changes.  Prayer is asked for this “public face of the Messianic/Christian community in Beer Sheva for over 50 years” to continue to b e a venue for both believers and seeker of Messiah. Pray for its success to stand.

Ron Cantor shares with us many of the strides forward the ministry has made over the past year including the major milestone of mastering enough Hebrew to begin preaching in it.  Pray for all those who are trying to master the language of the country, it is a necessity for its witness to native Israelis.

Pray also for the shortfall that almost every Israeli ministry has been experiencing in donations.  Pray that the Lord would stir those with resources to begin to give into these works of the harvest in order to replenish those that have not been able to continue in giving.  Pray also for those who have been faithful givers in the past to find new sources of revenue that they would be released again to support these important ministries.

The Santoros report a glorious work was done in their recent trip to the Scottish Highlands to preach and teach about the Last Days plan of God in uniting Jew and Gentile in the salvation of all Israel.  You can read some of their report inside the attached Weekly Summary, and they thank you for your prayers that surely accompanied them.

The Hydes have returned from their summer ministry trip in the U.S. and are rejoicing to see how God’s calling on their lives to stir up Jewish believers to come home to Israel.  They report Divine appointments throughout their trip.   Pray that we would all walk in the calling on our lives – simply and purely.

Arni Klein puts into perspective the huge protests in Israel this summer – the Tent City outcry over how impossible the burden is on average Israelis.  He not only relates that the outcry is genuine and legitimate, but also that it is the necessary spiritual process to an awakening to God.  This is only a portion of the prayer letter, but please read Signs in the Land in the attached Weekly Summary.  Pray also for the book Arni is preparing to write based on a 12-session course called, God’s Building Plan.

Yeshua Israel ministries, Kobi and Shani Ferguson also address the Tent City protests in an article, Arab Spring ISRAELI SUMMER.   Pro-socialist groups were certainly involved, but there is a real crisis for average Israelis suffering from the high cost of living….and then the rockets began falling on southern Israeli towns.

Pray for Maoz Ministries as they prepare for another EQUIP leadership conference that is training a new generation of Messianic leaders in Israel.  They are also in the finishing stages of launching a new website that will be an outreach tool to reach new people to support Israel.  They ask prayer for their Hebrew language OUTREACH website also.

"And I also say to you that you are Kefa/Peter, and on this rock I will build My kehilat/congregation, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed* in heaven." Matthew 16:18-19

No matter how dire the straits, nor overwhelming the odds, nor pressing the times, Yeshua stated point blank that He was handing us the keys to the kingdom of heaven and the gates of hell could not prevail against the congregation He was assembling to Himself.

Pray that all of our eyes remain fixed on Him and not on the boisterous seas and rising waves. ________________________________________

The final cases against Eddie Beckford has been ruled upon by the judge
who said that because of the provocation of the orthodox, she was being lenient toward Eddie with no jail, no community service, and end to the house 2 ½ year arrest and only a 5000 shekel fine for the two court cases. We join Lura and Eddie in rejoicing!

It may only be hasbara – propaganda – but we are also seeing a Debkafile report as we prepare to mail that PA leader Abbas is backing off the UN Security Council statehood bid
and is considering watering down his application to the UN General Assembly by possibly dropping the “state with 1967 borders.” Needless to say, these events are this week – and for the last several – the highest priority on each of the Israeli Ministry prayer letters we receive. Keep praying!

Guy C, who was born in Akko, Israel and now leads a growing congregation there called the Harvest of Asher, provides an overview of the Feasts of the Lord that begin in the month of Tishrei and are prophetic times of Israel to meet before God. Read by opening the Weekly Summary (by subscription only), and be in prayer for those Israelis God is calling to meet His Messiah during the 2011 high holy days.

Pray about supporting Israeli ministries with funds for their many outreaches in their communities during these holidays.
Also pray about supporting the needs of the congregations. Unemployment and inflation are hitting the believers of Israel too. Your help makes such a difference and is a testimony of Yeshua’s provision.

Eitan S wrote, “I’m convinced that we make “evangelism” too complicated. We know that Yeshua was a “friend to sinners.” That sounds pretty do-able to me. … I do like making friends with people and showing them that I genuinely care, through simple acts of kindness. “ Many Israelis are being won to the LORD in precisely this way – in contrast to their treatment by the ultra-pious.

This message of being the gospel not just speaking the gospel was also underscored in a story told by Ruth from Nahariya, whose taxi driver remembered her from blessing him with Arabic DVD about Jesus 3 months earlier. He was excited to see her again and gratefully accepted another Arabic DVD, this time the Jesus film.

With the fall Feasts of the Lord, a new season starts in the congregational life. Pray for the shepherds of Israel
as they go about building up strong families, equipping leaders, raising up prayer over their young soldiers reporting to duty in perilous times. Pray for God’s grace to be abundant toward them and wisdom and favor doubled.

Also asked, “For the breakthroughs in the life of depressed and bound people.”

In asking for prayer over the safety of Israeli soldiers and cities, one pastor asks also for intercession to be made for Islamic extremists to get saved. None is beyond the reach of the salvation of Yeshua, and the pastor noted meeting an Iranian ex-Muslim recently in the States “filled with God’s Spirit and (who) loved me, as a Jew.”

The call to prayer for Israel is being sounded strongly by many of the Israeli ministries this week and much great background information is spelled out in several of them, including,

1. A ministry in the Samarian Hills discuss the angle of how the Arab populations inside and outside Israel proper are impacting how Israel is preparing for the aftermath of the UN statehood bid; also of concern the hot potential for confrontations between Palestinian Arabs and Jewish-Israeli settlers.

2. A ministry near the Lebanon border speaks of the unease in their congregation “we are all conscious that hostilities could break out again from the North.” This goes with the report circulating that many expect the UN statehood bid to be followed with Israel’s Arab neighbors bum-rushing the borders again.

3. A Jerusalem ministry also notes the UN vote for Palestinian statehood could “cause a major shake up in this part of the world” as PA and Hamas have promised violent demonstrations and “day of rage” after the resolution receives its probably affirmation.

4. The same ministry goes on to underscore how serious the situation in Egypt is when the police stood by and let a 10-hour hate-fest riot break through a cement wall into the Israeli embassy. The staff barely escaped with their lives. Turkey is also a trouble spot, with the Turkish President continuing the verbal attack of Israel.

5. A ministry in Kfar Saba asks prayer that many Arab people with turn to the true God of Love as the Middle East is going through deep changes. (What the emeny has meant for evil God can turn to good through the breaking through of Messiah in many hearts) Pray the gospel will be proclaimed freely in the Arab states and in Israel.

6. Prayer is asked to be made against violence and the shedding of blood

7. A Beer Sheva pastor asks for prayer for Israelis to make Jacob’s prayer of Gen 32:9-12 their own. It is a prayer of repentance and asking God’s deliverance from Jacob’s fear of his brother Esau. The pastor notes this family history is still playing out today in fuller fruition.

8. The witness of reconciliation in Yeshua is also on the mind of many of the ministries who participate regularly events with Christian Arabs in the Land. Uplift all these to be more like Yeshua than ever before – which is what it takes to rise above the kind of conflicts that exist in the natural, even between spiritual brothers.

9. Another Israeli prophet and pastor in Meveseret Zion writes (see Praying the Headlines) about the mob attack in Egypt and the rescue of the Israeli Embassy staff including the efforts of Netanyahu to press the Egyptian government to divert an international disaster by rescuing the last 6 security personnel left in the embassy.

10. He also brings key facts out on the increasing belligerence of Turkish PM Erdogan, citing an excerpt from Hurriyet Daily columnist (asking prayer of protection for the courageous journalist) who wrote a detailing of Muslim-on-Muslim death tolls in various nations that tallies in the multiplied millions. (The numbers are astounding and profoundly undermine the idea that Muslim violence is limited to a small fringe).

11. A 24/7 prayer ministry from Jerusalem issues this video prayer alert urging Christians throughout the world to stand strongly during the next three crucial weeks for Israel and the region.

12. Finally, we do urge subscribers to go beyond the Arrows from Zion brief points this week, and go into the more in-depth coverage of these issues in the Weekly Summary for Prayer Requests from Israeli Ministries. Better than reading online newspapers, the Israeli ministries cut to chase of the most important issues to focus your attention on and prayers toward.

Back to the prayers for the needs of the harvest
– please pray for those Israeli ministries who are traveling and speaking at this time, for fruitfulness and protection. Pray the Holy Spirit would prepare even the soil of hearts that are hardened against seeing God’s plan continues to include Israel & the Jews. Pray that everywhere the seeds are being planted that water and sun will follow to produce good fruit.

Pray for the health of each of the leaders who are traveling
, or have just come from travels, which wears even the young and fit down. Pray for a supernatural infusion of health, strength, vigor and well being for each of the ministries.

Toward Jerusalem Council II is taking place in Israel this week
, convening major Church denominational leaders, particularly from Europe and Africa this year. Pray for their dialogue that is designed to bring official Church support and understanding to the Messianic movement in Israel and around the world.

Prayer is asked for “For the raising of more servant leaders in our midst. For men to take their place of shepherds and priests in their homes and spheres of influence.”

Many new marriages and babies among the congregations are creating pressing needs for facilities to be enlarged or even new facilities sought. The expense of living and ministering in Israel is really quite beyond imagination.
Please pray for God to stir up the believers of the nations to step into the gap and honor the debt Paul spoke of in Romans 15:27

It is natural to see much spiritual investment in the young people in Israel and everywhere, but it is also nice to see the investment of a Beer Sheva congregation in enriching the older folk on a recent Christian history tour in the Galilee. Young people are the future, but the elders still have the ability to grow and also to continue to make a valuable contribution to a the spiritual family.

Pray for the Christian leaders from the nations who were mentioned in the past week of prayer letters from Israeli Ministries – including the leaders from China, Korea, Scotland, Iran, Turkey, Great Britain, Lebanon, Germany and the United States
. In all of these nations God has stirred up Christians to respond to His heart toward the Body of Messiah in Israel. Pray that their influence in their own nations with expand and break down many barriers that have been erected to resist the move of God in this hour.

The World Needs Love

by Daniel C. Juster Director Tikkun International

Most of us understand that love involves compassion for others. In the world outside the conservative Christian and Messianic Jewish communities, there are some who believe compassion should move us to allow homosexuals to marry and to serve openly in the military. (The last has now been approved in the United States). In addition, they encourage tolerance for people to have no-fault divorces. Love, they say, compels us to have generous welfare and free high-tech medical services. Love seems to be bankrupting our country. The world also tells us that we should seek justice. Usually justice is defined as equality. If men and women are not treated in the same way, or if income distribution is not exactly equal, then society is unjust and unloving. Read in full here

This week one of the Revive Israel ministry team wrote what I think captures the sentiment of many of the Israeli ministries and believers:
“Despite the attacks, pressure, exhaustion, and disappointments, the kingdom of God is breaking through. We feel the prophetic destiny of end-times revival closing in on us.”
Pray for the Holy Spirit to breathe a spirit of refreshing upon those who are pressing in even in the midst of powerful storms.

Pray for the LORD to send a respite for the weary.

Pray for the LORD to rouse the spirits of brothers worldwide to lift up the arms of the Israeli Messianic Jews and Christian Arabs – to come alongside in both spiritual and material terms.

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11

If ever there was a more fitting passage of scripture describing the Body of Messiah in Israel, I don’t know what it would be if not this passage from 2 Corinthians 4:7-11

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Yeshua might be made manifest in our body. For we which live (as unto Him) are always delivered unto death (of self) for Yeshua' sake, that the (indwelling supernatural) life of Yeshua might be made manifest in our human flesh.

Pray and stand, therefore, with those lives that are laid down to the will and purposes of Messiah in Israel for the salvation of all Israel.
Lift up their weary arms in the battle as many are dogged daily by those intent on troubling Messiah’s Body. Pray for waters of refreshing to be poured out on the believers in the Land – as in the Days of Elijah, they are declaring the Word of the LORD.

We see in the reports this week the contrasts between intense pressures and resounding victories
– it is the battle from here on out, we believe, with the Body in Israel a prophetic picture of the battles that lie for the worldwide Body. Talk about real “training for reigning!”

Inside the Weekly Summary is an excellent article by Howard Bass that touches that conviction, Of The Breaking of Covenants and Treaties. Howard writes, “God has given Israel as an example to the Church, and what happens towards Israel will also happen towards the Church: first the natural; then the spiritual. If people want to make Israel the scapegoat for all the world’s troubles, they will also make Christians scapegoats.”

Bass also makes this wise observation: “According to God’s covenants, He will bless those who bless the seed of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, and He will curse him who makes light of them. This also would apply to how Jewish people (the House of Jacob) consider especially Christian believers, who are also of the seed of Abraham through faith.” Good news to report finally in the trial of Jack Teitel, the Yad L’Achim religious terrorist who tried to murder the Messianic Ortiz family in 2008. Teitel has been declared – at long last – mentally fit to stand trial. The defense maneuvers are not over but this is a major hurdle that was not looking promising because of how long it took the courts to make this determination.

On the down side of news, the Arab victim of Teitel who was murdered in the 1990’s was officially declared a victim of terror allowing the family to collect Social Security compensation. Ami Ortiz was denied terror victim status, denying him compensation even though the Purim bomb was a clear terrorist act. Read the newspaper articles on both stories about Teitel inside the Weekly Summary and pray for a reversal of this unjust decision in Ami’s compensation case.

On the upside, Far East groups continue to make mighty connections with the Body of Messiah in Israel. On the downside, even those connections are opposed by the religious as they become aware. Thank God for the Korean, Chinese and Japanese believers who are getting rightly aligned with the spiritual brothers in Israel – the first shall be last, and the last shall be first.

Also affecting Revive and other ministries who live in the Messianic kibbutz in Meveserret Zion, is an illegal targeting of believers – posting their photos, names & addresses
is illegal because it is like declaring open season on them, inviting people like the Jack Teitel’s of Israel to do believers bodily harm. Pray for this situation. Many ministries in Israel have been targeted in this manner – including the Ortiz family who were bombed. It is serious in several hot spots including ongoing in Arad.

On the upside of the believers at Yad Hashmona being targeted, is the “strongly supportive” write up in the Jerusalem Post. Persecution is deepening and widening, but it is also causing truth loving onlookers to stop, look and listen to the Messianic Jews with new eyes and ears. Pray than many will be given eyes to see and ears to hear the good news. You can read the article inside the Weekly Summary.

David Davis in Haifa points out that whatever the UN nations might say about Israel’s borders, God has already had the last word and God-appointed borders are all about world evangelism,
(Acts 17:26-27) God “has determined their [the nations] pre-appointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, so that they might seek the Lord…and find Him.” Take this nugget and run with it in your prayers about the Palestinian Stateship bid upcoming in the UN.

Davis asks: Please pray that the Lord will thwart the unilateral declaration of a Palestinian State on Sept. 20. Pray God’s Word and beseech Him to perform it. The battle in Israel is over God’s Word and God’s Son. Pray Psalm 2 and stand on Ps. 33:9-12. Pray for the Lord’s word to be fulfilled.

No matter what anyone on the outside looking in might think, when I see Messianic ministries whom I know to be spiritually quality people joining the Tent City demonstrations in Israel, I KNOW there is real basis to the outcry. Always! Always what the indigenous believers have to say holds more weight than the greatest outside Israel supporter the world has ever seen.
Selah.

Before the arrival of Jewish New Year and the High Holy Days, please pray about how the Lord would direct your giving towards the many outreaches in Israel during these holidays. This is always a powerful time for the believers to be a witness of Yeshua in their communities - and why not? These are the APPOINTED times of God for Israel to appear before Him. These are times APPOINTED for opening of eyes and ears to the Messiah of Israel.

8 to 10% of Israel’s population is ultra-Orthodox
(haredim). They have large families and do not work or serve in the army. A demographic study indicates their numbers will double over the next decade. The taxes of the rest of Israeli society supports ½ million ultra-Orthodox who receive free health care & pensions. It is an unsustainable situation – and the political power of the religious only is increasing which is bad news for Messianic Jews.

Pray for the brotherhood bonds of unity to hold as each week closer to the UN bid for statehood, the tensions there rise. Replacement theology is alive and well in Arab Christianity – although there are many sincerely devoted to our status as brothers in Messiah. Whenever the politics of Israel-Palestinians is strained, it naturally creates strain in the Body. Pray for God to grant major breakthroughs in this regard for the indigenous believers.

Last week we recommended a re-read of Uzi Lotan’s Mosques, Minarets and Military Training. This week we can share their village is surrounded by 5 Palestinian villages in the Samarian Hills/WestBank and is always under 24/7 security – but they have not noticed heightened security arrangements in their village.

Another Israeli believer in Jerusalem noted this week that her new gas mask arrived but without the syringe….You see Israelis are hardening themselves for outbreaks of war – not sure where it will come from with so many current brewing situations.

Do you see intercessory prayer as plowing?
If not, Josie Silver’s intercessory prayer encouragement article inside the Weekly Summary might change your mind . Plowing goes before planting.

The Druze are an off-shoot sect of Islam
and there are distinct Druze communities in Israel that believers are a witness to. One ministry that must remain anonymous shares this week with good things happening in their outreaches to the Druze. Read it inside the Weekly Summaryand pray for the Druze to hear the call of Yeshua on their lives. Family violence is a special need in the Druze communities.

Thank God for the teams of Christians from around the world that God stirs to come to Israel to work alongside the Body in ministry outreaches!
Blessings upon the young people from the far Northern Atlantic Faroe Islands who annually roll up their sleeves in the work of the ministry in Israel.

Boycott Durban III
with the Jerusalem Institute of Justice, Eagles’ Wings, World Zionist Organization and the European Coalition for Israel On September 21, 2011 at 11 AM, we will be holding a demonstration opposite the UN headquarters in NYC as the UNHRC launches its Anti-Racism Week, a mere guise for bashing the nation of Israel. The rally will be held in Dag Hammerskojld Plaza (East 42nd ST, between 1st and 2nd Ave, close to the UN building). Be there in person – or by praying in the Spirit.
