Priority Prayer Focus June 18, 2014
Excellent word from Martin in Jerusalem. It made me think of the
"unusual" twin tornadoes in Nebraska yesterday. So akin to what we
are witnessing in Iraq! As the Sunni and
Shia branches fight for control of ancient homelands – as terrifying as the
sight is – let’s remember that God’s will shall prevail. A QUICKENING | The landscape is changing quickly in the Middle East-spiritually, demographically, perhaps soon to be geographically as well. As fierce new military forces are arising, coming into array and beginning to devour territory as well as lives, those nations outside, which until now were considered to have strong interests in the area, are finding themselves in sudden dis-array-wavering in their former alliances, in some cases on the brink of making almost farcical turn-arounds.
Only a few months ago Sunni Muslims were seen by the West as being for
the most part the more "moderate" of the two divisions of Islam-ideal
partners in its rush to contain the alarming religious zealotry threatening the
world from Shi'ite Iran. Now the mask has come suddenly off-revealing a
burgeoning charismatic Sunni movement with its own high religious-fueled goals
(along with chillingly barbarous means already being employed to achieve them).
Certain
western countries this week are said to actually be seriously considering
allying themselves with the once-threatening Iran in order to stem the Sunni
tide.
Yet it is a dual storm-tide which is arising, out of which "giants" are soon to be striding the earth from both sides. As believers, in order to see these giants in a true perspective, it is essential that we come ourselves "into array"-but in the "different spirit" of Caleb and Joshua-each knowing, valuing and attending to his or her own divine positioning, that we may "know our God, be strong and do" what God is calling us to do-having that Divine insight which will teach and lead many out and into righteousness! (See Numbers 13:30; 14:7-9, 24 of last week's Torah Portion, this weeks Portion below, and Daniel 11:32-35; 12:3)

congregation in Jerusalem speaks very eloquently to the impact that the
kidnapping of three Israeli teenagers is having on the whole nation of Israel,
and why. There are special factors that
come into play – the small size of the country, families that live in more
close proximity than what we are accustomed to in large, modern nations like
the USA. There is also the existential threat that breathes continually down
the neck of every Israeli. It is a
sobering reality in good times, but in times of crisis the raw emotions of Israeli
citizens comes pouring out. That is what
is happening in the fears and dread of the Israeli nation as the IDF searches
desperately to find where the terrorists have secreted away Gilad, Naftali and
Eyal.

From Beer Sheva’s Yeshua’s Inheritance congregation, Howard Bass also opens his prayer letter this week with the three kidnapped teenagers and the maturing of evil that is prophetic and which we are seeing in our day. Howard writes, “In the wisdom and righteousness of God, He is giving people to see, to discern, to choose good or evil. The day of judgment will come, and as the redeemed of the Lord, we want to let Him crush Satan under our feet. . . . Brothers and sisters, it is time to wake up out of our dormancy and to come to maturity in knowing good and evil, and choosing the good. … The devil sought some darkness in Jesus, and found none! The name of the Lord Jesus Christ/Yeshua the Messiah, is a strong tower and a refuge for the righteous to run in to. The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but spiritual, for the pulling down of strongholds, and all disobedience, bringing all thoughts captive to the obedience of Messiah.”
From Kehila.com, a newsfeed aggregate of over 100-Messianic related websites in Israel, is this article from OneForIsrael challenging God’s people Don’t Look Away in the face of increasingly alarming news we are seeing from Iraq. “God’s people are calling out to us from Baghdad, pleading with us not to ignore their plight, or to forget the plans of God for the area.” There are many Christians in even the worst of Middle Eastern nations and they are a prime target of Islamist terror groups morphing into armies. The lead intercessor at the Hamaayan congregation in Kfar Saba, Sally Shiff, writes a high recommendation for the book Circle Maker which she was given in the United States while doing a speaking tour for her congregation. Little did she know that her pastor, Tony Sperandeo was also reading the book at the same time and it would become a preparation for an extended time of prayer and fasting for the congregation. Joel Jelski who is associated with the 24/7 prayer group Succat Hallel in Jerusalem, brings us up-to-date on street ministry a Succat Hallel team did on the streets of Jerusalem recently where words of knowledge and healings were ministered to several passers-by on the street. These are the days of Elijah in Israel, saints! The percentages of Israelis who know Yeshua as Messiah may be relatively small now, but that is changing and will ultimately change mightily. This is the time to step forward in support – materially and through intercession for the Body of Messiah in Israel.
Jelski also lets up know about the national
prayer gathering in Jerusalem that is scheduled for June 27th for
the pro-life ministry, Be’ad Chaim. Joel
writes, “Please be praying for this time, especially as Israel has recently
moved forward in making free abortions even easier to obtain than before.”

Evan Thomas speaks about the Ruth story that
is the traditional reading of Shavuot.
The international Church is “Ruth”. Evan also writes about the cycle of
holiday seasons as they correlate to agricultural events. It is rich prophetic ground that speaks of
God’s harvesting of the Jewish people into salvation. Evan writes, “As Jewish followers of Messiah,
these seasons and their commemorations reinforce our identities enabling us to
say: ‘It’s okay to be Jewish and also a disciple of Yeshua. We would encourage you, our precious Brothers
and Sisters from among the nations, to also seek an understanding of the Jewish
roots of your faith. This will connect you with your rich inheritance through
the faith of Abraham and also connect you more with your Jewish brothers and
sisters – the ‘natural branches’ of the olive tree of Romans Chapter 11.
Remember that through our mutual faith in Yeshua, we are both ‘grafted into’
the olive tree – the commonwealth of Israel!”
Evan also speaks about the ongoing crisis in the Ukraine, and their own expectation of many more Ukrainian Jews to start arriving in Israel. If you don’t know, many of the congregations in Israel are home to those immigrants from the former Soviet Union. All over Europe, too, the indications are that a rise in anti-Semitism much fueled by the appeasement of Islamists in Western Europe, will begin to drive more Jewish to make aliyah. Asia, Europ and the U. S. Shira will be staying at home in Tel Aviv
but has a full plate of responsibilities including a new TV segment she is
about to begin recording. Shira’s
writing in the Maoz Israel monthly prayer letter gives great insight into
issues, like this one that befuddles many Israelis, Why
Can't the Arab World Accept One Small Jewish State? In it she explores the reasons for the
hatred. Pray for them as they continue
to press into the salvation of all Israel.
Ruth Nessim, writing from Nahariya on the furthermost border with Lebanon, writes much this month of her good visits from a Jordanian pastor and a Syrian pastor, as well as her friendships with Palestinian Arabs in the West Bank. Ruth writes, “Israel has a 20 % Arab population, and in the Galilee where we are located, the Arabs outnumber us by 55-45 percent! So it should not surprise you that a lot of our time is also engaged with meeting Arabs (and loving them).” What can we say that tops this attitude of love?
Last week we passed along the news that Pastor Najeeb and Elizabeth’s son has been accepted into the Israeli army. Ruth writes this week that it has caused backlash – their son’s girlfriend broke up with Tino over it, he was fired from his job, and some Palestinian pastors have rebuked Pastor Najeeb for his sons desire to serve in the Israeli army. They are holding fast to the right-ness of it, but you prayers for the whole family and all those other Arabs who have made the same decision, for God’s good and favor on their lives.

Uzi and Charlotte Lotan who have a house of
praise in the Samarian Hills, are going through some transitions now as they
are receiving more guests and visitors in the village of Alfei-Meneshe. It has become so full and fruitful that in
July Uzi will be stepping down from heading the translation job he holds with a
Tel Aviv ministry.
This week we have seen several in the same
position of needing to raise more support from the international church
precisely because the ministry work they are engaged in has become so much more
fruitful and time filling. As someone
who has produced this weekly prayer summary I know very well that it is pretty
difficult to hold down a full time job and get much done with the
ministry. Some people have written me
saying they can’t figure out why I would have any expenses at all since what I
produce is a prayer list! I guess living
does not count as a need. ;-)
The point is that we cannot take the typical church model of a ministry supporting itself from the giving of those they minister to and apply that to Israel ministry. Even though Israel is a modern, Western-style nation, the actual ministry in Israel is much more similar to evangelistic mission work in a third world nation. The people being ministered to in Israel do not have the resources to fully fund all the fruitful visions and outreaches that will touch the unsaved. That is why the laborers in the Lord’s harvest in Israel so need a Ruth-like church to arise and come to their sides to assist.
Please stop giving to just good-deed organizations blessing Israel, and start giving to God-deed ministries who are also carrying the Good News to Israelis as they do all of the same good deeds to bless Israelis.

Urgent HEALING Needs: Life and Death is in the power of the
tongue
Please keep in prayer the Israeli
believers who are fighting for their lives or other urgent health needs:
- Prayer request from Hamaayan Congregation for D, one of our youth to have a perfect recovery from a dangerous illness.
- Pray for Messianic leader Marcel Rebiai of Shemen Sasson congregation in Jerusalem as he recovers from major back surgery.
- Arni & Yonit Klein of Emmaus Way request prayers for staff in the U.S. (Becky and Keith) and in Germany (Hannah) as they heal from extremely serious injuries received in accidents.
- Four elder ministry leaders in Israel, are dealing with Parkinson’s which is a neurological syndrome. Since they have not shared this information, I will just ask for you to please pray for them each to be able to continue to live normal lives, and for the hand of the LORD to bless them with healing.
- Please pray for the wife of Ariel Ben David, who leads an Eilat Congregation, and also for his worship leader, both of whom were recently diagnosed with breast cancer. It has been quite a long while since we heard any update, if any of you in Israel can input new information it would be appreciated.
- Pray for Ami Ortiz for ongoing issues from the Purim 2008 bomb blast – all this time later there are still painful procedures, lack of recognition from the government of this terror victim status.
- Guy Cohen of Harvest of Asher asks for continued prayer for Marlene’s physical healing and financial miracle needed. For Misha, who has diabetes & was hospitalized w/infection and blood clot in his leg; for V’s son; for O who fell on the bus.

The nation of Israel stands today in prayer, support, and solidarity with the families of the three Israeli teenagers kidnapped four days ago in the West Bank. May Gil-ad, Eyal, and Naftali be found and returned to their families quickly and safely. After news broke that the three boys had disappeared and had most likely been kidnapped, pictures emerged from Gaza of street-side celebrations sponsored and supported by the Hamas government.
We believe this shines light on a bigger question, namely, should the United States and Western governments continue to fund the united Palestinian regime? Over the past fortnight we have received news of Hamas and the PLO’s decision to join forces and present a united front against Israel. We ask – will there ever be peace with a radical regime that systematically abuses and disregards the rights of its own people while celebrating each step, however barbaric, that somehow brings pain to Israel?
