WEEKLY Arrows from Zion 4/22/2015

Arrows from Zion

Priority Prayer Focus Apr 22, 2015
Rejoice in your 67th Birthday, Israel!

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at ceremonies commemorating IDF fallen and terror victims on Wednesday, Netanyahu said, 'Our enemies must know they will not break us.'  Netanyahu speaks of Israel's strength and insists all Israelis 'are one family.'

The Central Bureau of Statistics announced that 176,000 births, 32,000 new immigrants account for 2% population increase in 2014.  At 67, Israel is home to 8.3 million people.

I cannot see that number  - 67 - the years since Israel declared itself an independent, reborn state among the nations, without remembering the words of Yeshua in Matthew 24 about the generation that would see the signs of His coming and the end of the age.  There are a few ideas about how long a generation lives, but even in our day 70 years is a common life span.  The re-born state of Israel is coming up to that generational marker, and it could not be clearer both the evil and the godly signs that Yeshua spoke of in this passage.  Let us focus on the godly part:

"Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door. Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away."

Spiritually, the fig tree is tender and its leaves have come out, even some spiritual fruit has appeared. This is the generation, Yeshua addressed to His disciples privately.  We should be aware of the times and take our places in praying through everything God desires for Israel - plans for good and not for evil, to give a future and a hope.

Israelprayer Notice:  You may have been reading in sources that you consider reliable, about a "Karduri revival".  We want to put you on notice that there is no such thing and the Israeli person who is most attributed with making this claim is someone you would be wise to be exercise great caution with.

Certainly the Israeli people are becoming more open to the gospel, we can assure you that this openness is in no way tied to the popular stories you may be hearing about the now deceased ultra-Orthodox mystic rabbi Kaduri.  Some Christians like this story because it tickles their ears to hear about rabbis coming to the knowledge of Yeshua as the Messiah.  Yeshua Himself said that the it would be the prostitutes and the tax collectors who would enter the kingdom of Heaven before the religious.  Not that the religious will not enter, but if you say you have a heart for Israel's salvation, you better get your eyes off the rabbis and on to the regular people of Israel who have a better heart grasp of their own need for being saved from themselves.

It is with no joy that I issue this caution. My experience is that the people who are following these claims and this man, do not want to know the truth.  I hope that is no one on my Israelprayer list.

Arrows from Zion
Strategically Aimed for the Lord's Harvest in Israel

Israel Pochtar begins our Weekly Summary of Prayer Requests from Israeli Ministries with a follow up report on a recent outreach where more than 600 non-believers were transported in 14 buses to Jerusalem for a worship concert, a message of salvation delivered by pastor Pochtar and a tour of the biblical sites around Jerusalem.  They write that a great number of "the people who attended the meeting responded to the altar call with tears in their eyes and gave their lives to Yeshua! Thank you Lord!"

Pochtar writes, "But this is just the beginning! Now we are planning to proceed with effective follow-up action. This will entail conducting an Alpha and discipleship course for all new believers to lay a solid foundation and to strengthen them in their faith; the provision of study materials, Bibles and books; and conducting regular follow-up sessions and additional Bible courses to further equip these dear ones.  Please continue standing with us in prayer for these new believers and we'll be sure to keep you updated!"

From Revive Israel comes this invitation to join their live stream Shavuot/Pentecost annual prayer event from Jerusalem on May 23, 2015 from 10pm Israeli time.  The all-night prayer event will continue for 8 hours as the worldwide body unites with the prayers ascending from Jerusalem for God to pour out His Spirit on all flesh in the end times.  (Acts 2:17-21).  We will continue to remind of this event and on the day of it, to join the live web-stream all you have to do is go to reviveisrael.org at the time of the event.

Asher Intrater also sends a great teaching on Daniel's Prophecies.  He writes, "In terms of the progressive revelation of the Israelite prophets, Daniel represents the most advanced stage. His vision of the coming Messiah prepared the way for the Gospel; his visions of the end times provide the background and context for the book of Revelation."

More ministry from Revive Israel is this VIDEO teaching by Paul Wilbur called Grace for the Place . Paul shares from his wealth of experience in leading worship about the grace and anointing of the Holy Spirit empowering us to do what we have been created to do.  Also this Video from Revive Thailand.

In Israel news, Asher draws our attention to the Iran Agreement and the Netanyahu Coalition. See more inside the subscription only DOCX Weekly Summary

Martin Sarvis in Jerusalem writes about the stormy coalition government negotiations and the fact that PM Netanyahu has been granted two more weeks to form his government.  Martin writes, "The past four weeks of negotiations have been stormy.  Unfortunately, in the barterings and secret dealings involved with bringing together a government from such disparate groups, truth and honesty themselves often become 'negotiable'.  Throughout the negotiations (and this is no exception) it is not uncommon for there to be accusations and counter-accusations of lies and lack of good-faith.   As with the foundation of God's own throne (see Psalm 89:14), the seat of a truly sound government must have righteousness and justice as a base, and for it to stand and be trusted there must from the start issue forth a character of kindness and truth."

Sarvis offers these prayer points:
Pray that Benyamin Netanyahu will move in cleanness and integrity in choosing his coalition.  There were promises made before the elections-those should be kept, whatever the unexpectedly different 'realities' after the votes were cast;
that he will resist and reject the temptation to seek refuge in a 'different word.'  That "justice will be the measuring line and righteousness the level, and that all refuge for lies will be swept away"; that "secret places" of falseness in any of the parties considered for making up the coalition will be overflown and exposed;
That God will grant Israel a government of strength and integrity to lead His people in the days ahead."

Dugit Coffeehouse writes, "Last month Avi spoke at a missions conference in Nashville, IN.  All of the sessions were great, but the Sunday morning session was especially powerful.  Many in the conference were deeply touched as Avi shared from Acts 10 and Isaiah 19."

Guy Cohen of the Harvest of Asher congregation in Acco was also drawn to what Yeshua had to say in Matthew 24 about the End Times.  He writes his reflections on those words and the times we are living in, including the loss last summer in the war with Gaza, of Messianic Jewish soldier, Shai. Speaking from the heart Guy admits, "Up until that happened I personally believed that we are protected from the assault of the enemy and that nothing can harm us. Now after losing Shai,  I can see that rockets and missiles affect everyone; those who believe in Yeshua and those who do not, Jews who believe in Yeshua and Jews who do not and soldiers who believe in Yeshua as well as soldiers who do not."

You can read his full commentary inside the subscription only DOCX Weekly Summary but we just want to encourage all of you not to assume your prayers are not needed for covering all of the believers in Israel. As Guy writes, "Personally I believe we are supposed to be here on earth to walk shoulder to shoulder with non-believers in order to be the light of God."  The enemy of our souls would like to destroy those who carry the gospel, but also Solomon wrote in Eccl 9:11 "time and chance happens to them all".  Sometimes bad things befall godly people.   We must pray to limit that which can be held back.

Evan Thomas of the Beit Asaph congregation in Netanya writes about the congregation there and also about the Israeli elections in which the election results have left some Israeli believers jubilant, but others eying the election with great concern.  Evan writes, "Israeli societal needs are torn between military security and socio-economic issues; these could be described as "threats from without versus threats from within. We raise this subject with the intent to make us all mindful, as the "watchmen on the walls"

"…. BUT we also have a deadly enemy within the very fabric of Israeli society, namely our rebellious nature as a nation towards God and the ways of His Kingdom. All-too-often, intercessors from the nations focus attention on Israel's enemies beyond our borders and are reluctant to address the steadily weakening moral structure of our nation. We understand the reluctance, or even fear of bringing any form of criticism against Israel, lest it be misconstrued as anti-Semitic. We must be sensitive of course, but not at the cost of losing 'our prophetic voice' to our own people. Please include these issues in your prayer watches."

Some key intercessory points Evan specifies to pray over:
a)  The accelerating moral degradation of society (this includes the ever-increasing power of the Gay-rights movement)
b)  Widespread corruption at the highest levels of government
c)  Widespread greed within property markets causing intolerable housing costs
d)  An endemic cultural characteristic of self-entitlement that is evident in both Israeli Jewish and Arab communities. This problem also deeply affects the Believing communities in both sectors

Awake Israel Ministries in Rishon le Zion - Shlomy and Miriam Abramov - report that their aid center for the poor is doing extremely well, with more new families and needy coming each week.  They write, "Obtaining goods at no cost is unheard of in Israel. We give freely as we receive. Pray they know the one who gave his life at no cost to save their souls. Friendships are being cultivated and God's love is evident to the community."  Of course, when the love of Yeshua is winning friends, it also draws the enemies of the gospel which has come with a group of religious opposers who come to discourage participation at the aid center.

This has not slowed down the outreach of Awake Israel who are also conducting day trip biblical tours to reach Israelis with the good news about Yeshua Messiah.  They also were able to give 448 blankets to an institute for the blind over the Passover holiday.  See the tour information we have below for the Abramovs in Texas and contact them for other dates and places.

Orna Greenman of A Sign and A Wonder ministry to orphans, widows and single parents in the Body in Israel, is one of those that Evan Thomas referenced who are not 100% thrilled with the re-election of Netanyahu.  She writes, "I know just how much those lovers of Israel outside of the holy land admire our prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. In some respects, he indeed deserves it. He is a brilliant man, who well understands the signs of times and is very knowledgeable in the machinations of terror. He loves the Old Testament and spends hours each Shabbat studying it. That, in and of itself, is touching."

"But," Orna writes, "his policy revolves not just around external and defense issues. It is comprised of other aspects as well, and these areas suffer from some serious flaws for which we are paying a very high price as a nation."  Orna provides an explanation of the issues that she notes is a grim picture such as the disgrace of the lack of care for Holocaust survivors within Israel.   You can read Orna's insights in these lesser prayed needs inside the subscription only DOCX Weekly Summary .  She issues these as a challenge to those who would be a Ruth to Israel in this hour.

The prayer point highlights from Orna are to pray:
- For our leadership: Benjamin Netanyahu and the Ministers he is choosing these days for his new government. Ask God to soften their hearts, to fill them with compassion and make them feel they are on a mission to bring historical justice by allowing these people not only to die with honor but to live in honor as well in the short time they still have.
- For the survivors: salvation, of course, as well as healing. . . .I find it extremely hard to think that some of them might actually find themselves in eternal hell.
- For the entire nation: we are not quick to make the connection between our security battle and our walk, or lack of it, in God's ways. Pray that God will open our eyes and help us understand that He insists we act justly if we seek true peace.

Arrows from Zion Strategically Aimed for the Lord’s Harvest in Israel

Yad Hashmona, which is the first Messianic Kibbutz in Israel, as well as a guest house and conference facility located just outside Jerusalem begins our Summary this week with the report on the intense Israeli elections and how strongly Israeli media were persuading that Netanyahu “must go!”

Ayelet Ronen, who is the general secretary of Yad Hashmonah writes, “
Believers in the country prayed for this election fervently. We all felt it is important, and one that can lead to a 180 degree change in the direction Israel is taking. No matter who each of us voted for, I felt very clearly that Netanyahu's election was an answer to prayer. As hard as it is for us as believers to see the growing power of the religious parties, I believe God will be with us through it all. . . . We need to continue to pray for wisdom for the Israeli leaders. Although we know many of them do not follow God's call, they ARE instruments in God's sovereign hand and I truly believe prayer makes a difference in Israel.”

There are many homes currently being built for families in the Yad Hashmona community and Ayelet asks prayers for the building so families will be able to move in by the end of the year. There are details of what to pray for inside the attached PDF Weekly Summary that I don’t necessarily want to publish in Arrows.  They have also started a building project for the kids playing zone, more facilities and public lighting on roads and walkways.  Pray for “Speedy, yet accurate, completion of our building project, and open doors for future projects! We pray for funds for the Community center we need so much.”

This is a believing community putting down deep and substantial roots in the Israeli soil, and you will want to read more of the life of their community inside the attached Weekly Summary, where you can also find their contact information.  They also ask prayers for “
Safety and provision for our families here, especially for those of our youth currently serving in the Israeli Defense Forces.”

Return to Zion is a thriving family oriented congregation in Haifa led by Leon Mazin.  One of the recent projects they chose to do was to provide for their returning IDF soldiers to be able “to travel to a quiet place, to spend some time alone with God, to receive teaching and travel around.  We hope that they will return to Israel with new power for their next step, which is serving the Lord.”  Donate here

It is somewhat a tradition for Israelis who have completed their mandatory IDF service after high school to travel abroad before returning to normal life and college, or whatever they decide to pursue for their life.  Often the trips abroad are not exactly godly pursuits, or lead many to experiment with strange religions.  IDF service is a challenging time for young believers, and many lose their spiritual way during this time.  This is a pro-active ministry to the young soldiers, to beckon them back into the life of the Spirit…a worthy path of ministry that is Israel-specific ministry.

In the family theme, the Return to Zion congregation also recently held a men’s retreat which one of the men wrote an article for in the Tikkun ministries monthly magazine.  Read about their desert getaway in “A Place Without Noise | Men with God in the Desert” .  You can read more about how Return to Zion is reaching out also into their community inside the attached PDF Weekly Summary.

Ronit Bender in Carmel writes, “Do you ever pray for something, and when the Lord answers your prayer, you get so surprised? I asked the Lord to open more doors for me to share the Gospel, and I received a phone call from an Israeli woman here in Haifa, who asked me to her home a couple of weeks ago. 15 of her friends were there to hear a 'lecture' from me. I told them it is not a lecture but my testimony. They listened, asked many questions, asked me back sometime soon, and gave me a love offering.  It was an evening I will not forget in a hurry, as the Presence of God was very strong in the room.”

Ronit writes about three people in Israel who gave their lives to the Lord over the past week including  a young Arabic man visiting his elderly uncle in the hospital.  She went with a Carmel congregational team led by Eric Benson of the House of Victory to minister in Tel Aviv to prostitutes, drug addicts, and street people.  She writes, “What I saw shook me to the core.  The filth, the despair, and the sadness on these people's faces, cut right into my heart. They use synthetic heroin, boil some cheap pills and inject them into their collapsing veins.   We went out to the streets inviting them to have a hot soup, sandwich and Carol's delicious brownies. Some came” ….including Shimon who had asked God that morning why He did not help him when he is in the lowest point of his life.  Ronit asks prayers for this man and the others that came.  Read more inside the attached PDF Weekly Summary

From Revive Israel, Asher has important observations about the concept of salvation in the scriptures – one is military and the other is spiritual and both are true.  Asher wrties, “This dichotomy can cause confusion when trying to dialogue about salvation. The question "Are you saved?" has virtually no meaning in modern Hebrew...  Read more

He also compares and contrasts “Two Summits” that were held concerning the Middle East last weekend.  “The contrast between the two highlights some of the bizarre complexities of the conflicts in the region. The first was held in Lausanne, Switzerland in which an international coalition, led by the United States, seems close to an agreement with Iran over their nuclear building plans.  The second was held in Sharm-El-Sheikh, Sinai in which the Arab league, led by the Egyptians and the Saudis met to form a coalition against the aggression of Iranian forces throughout the Middle East, particularly in Yemen. Ironically, the majority of the Arab league is basically in agreement with the Israeli position concerning Iran.”  Read in full inside the attached PDF Weekly Summary where you will also find the very telling answer to the question, “Who’s Standing with Iran?

Years ago, in the 1990’s as I was studying Genesis and the distinctively different roles of men and women according to God’s design, I also saw that this principle related to the distinctly different roles of Israel and the Church.  Delightfully, this is the subject of this video teaching by Asher called
Israel and the Nations where Asher shows that just like a man and woman were created for each other, so are Israel and the nations. Both are called to be in relationship, mutually serve and bless each other.

One thing you can say about Israel Pochtar is that he is on fire to win souls.  He writes, “When we first started Beit Hallel Congregation we could hardly imagine how far the Lord would take us and our work, the doors He would open and the influence & favor we would gain in our city.  Until today thousands in Ashdod have heard the gospel through us, which we consider to be a miracle, but nevertheless it's the reality.”

Now Pochtar and the Beit Hallel congregation are planning on a new special program where they will take “600 non-believers on a tour of Jerusalem, share biblical history with them, then finish the day with a celebration event of praise, worship, preaching the gospel, ending with altar call and prayer for healing. The event has a lot of potential, and we believe can be very powerful in reaching these people, since many of them are very open to the gospel after working with us for several years. This project is a unique opportunity to reach Israelis with the gospel, and it promises to be a life-changing experience for them.”  Find out how you can get involved with this outreach inside the attached PDF Weekly Summary

The Carmel congregation in Haifa put on six Passover Seder outreaches and ask prayer for lasting fruit and follow up to come from each.  They ask several prayer requests which you can access in the attached Weekly Summary – including prayers for fresh anointing on our small group classes for Russian-speaking new believers; and new workers for our Or HaCarmel women’s shelter for African refugee women and children.

They are also the covering ministry of the House of Victory rehab mentioned earlier and they are asking prayer for the homeless, afflicted men being brought from the streets of Tel Aviv to House of Victory.  Pray for deliverance and discipleship. Pray for anointing upon our weekly outreach teams to Tel Aviv.  If you have anyone in your family or friends whose life has courted disaster with addictions, then you know the nightmare that many of us do not want intruding into our consciousness.  Pray for all those who minister to these people who so fit the scriptural description of Proverbs 24:11:  “Deliver those that are drawn toward death, hold back those that are stumbling to the slaughter”

Read the article by David Davis, the leader of the Carmel Assembly in Teaching Articles as he writes about the Hand Behind History - inside the attached PDF Weekly Summary

Calev Myers of the Jerusalem Institute of Justice wrtes about speaking before the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva last week.  You can watch the video here as well as videos of the other speakers who addressed the UNHRC on behalf of Israel.

Eddie Santoro of the Ahavat Yeshua congregation in Jerusalem writes of Passover.  “God set a destiny in place for this nation and although the very powers of Hell endeavor to prevent its fulfillment, He who promised is faithful.”  The Passover holiday is not a peripheral issue in Israel – everyone and every city is attuned to the same thing, and when it is done, “As Israel has done for 4,500 years, the nation will have kept its appointment with God to remember their momentous Exodus from Egypt.”  In due season, the greater spiritual picture of Passover will be understood as “all Israel shall be saved.”

“For those of us who believe, Passover is not just about remembering the exodus from Egypt but it was on this day that Yeshua was crucified as an eternal offering to set us free from sin and death. This year the Christian and Jewish calendar coincided and on this weekend, the city of Jerusalem was filled with Christian pilgrims who came to honor the Lamb of God, Yeshua who was sacrificed on this day and rose again on Sunday. It was in the city of Jerusalem that Yeshua gave himself and it will be to this same city that He will return - not as the sacrificial lamb but as the King of Glory.”

Joel Jelski of Succat Hallel relates recent ministry events involving Israelis Jews and Arabs from Jerusalem and Bethlehem, as well as trips in Ephesus, Turkey, and near Kobani, Syria.  I will not share those details publicly but you may read about them and view Joel’s pictures inside the attached PDF Weekly Summary

Urgent HEALING Needs: Life and Death is in the power of the tongue
Please keep in prayer the Israeli believers who are fighting for their lives or other urgent health needs:

Carolyn Hyde
seems to have experienced another TIA, mini-stroke.  Please pray for Carolyn, that the LORD would keep her in the palm of His Hand and no weapon formed against her shall prosper.

Please continue to pray for Brian Slater’s wife Racheli who is recovering from hip surgery in a Tel Aviv rehabilitation unit.  Pray also for Brian and the kids in Netanya who are very much missing home life without her.

From Revive Israel:  Two weeks ago we asked you to pray for Sari (a young Messianic mother fighting cancer). Sadly this week she passed away. Please pray for her husband, three young children, and their extended family in this difficult time.

Praying the Headlines

Martin Sarvis offers insights and prayers for the new government of Israel which is being formed by Prime Minister Netanyahu.  These are critical negotiations – especially for believers – who desire a strong national security government but also balanced by parties that are strong on individual freedom issues.  Israel has a unique secular-religious divide quite unlike the political systems we are accustomed to in Western democracies.  Believers in the nations need a ‘tour guide’ to navigate Israeli politics and there are none better than those believers who regularly write of such things in this Weekly Summary.
