August is a big month for Israelprayer. One, because I celebrate my birthday – I turned 63 on the 7^th – and also because the Weekly Summary of Prayer Requests from Israeli Ministries was also born in mid-August 2001.  Which means we have just completed 13 years of delivering the prayer requests of the Israeli ministries, to the tune of something like 650 issues of Israelprayer over the last 13 years. 

Now we are officially entering into our 14^th year of serving the Body of Messiah in Israel, and naturally wondered what the number 14 means in biblical symbolism.  I’m not sure about that, but there are many interesting verses in scripture that use the number 14 – like in the Matthew accounting of the geneaology of Yeshua/Jesus, Matthew breaks it into three sections of 14 generations – from Abraham to David, from David to the exile into Babylon, and from the Babylon exile to Yeshua.  I think at the very least I can count on this 14^th year of Israelprayer being a culmination of the past 13 years.  I also read that the number 14 in the bible also symbolizes the double-portion (7 x 2 =14).  So, may this year bring a double-portion fulfillment of everything this prayer summary vision was established to do – may the fruit from it be multiplied, doubled in this year of transitioning to the next stage God has envisioned.

Strategically Aimed for the Lord’s Harvest in Israel

David Davis of the Carmel Assembly recalls their 25 year experience in Israel beginning with the air raid sirens of Saddam Hussein’s scud missile attacks on Israel during the U.S. Operation Desert Storm soon after they settled in Haifa. Then came the 2006 war with Hizbalah and more air raid sirens as rockets rained down of Haifa. Last month the sirens blared out again as the rockets from Hamas in Gaza reached farther than anyone had expected.  And on August 1^st, the Davis’ attended the funeral of a Messianic soldier killed in this latest war. 

Living in Israel is no walk in the park but still there is praise being offered by the Body of Messiah throughout Israel for the privilege of being able to serve Yeshua at such a time as this. Davis writes, “We may be outnumbered and surrounded on the ground, but the Lord also has His body here in the Land crying out for His purposes to be accomplished.”

In the mouth of two witnesses, David Davis and Asher Intrater both this week referred to the locusts and scorpions of Rev 9:2-3 in relation to the plans Hamas had intended for their underground tunnels opening into Israel. Like a demonic cloud of death and destruction, the plan had been for 200 Hamas terrorists to swarm out of the tunnels on Rosh Hashannah in September, to kill, kidnap and destroy. This plan was thwarted by the grace of God as events disclosed the extent of the now destroyed tunneling weeks ago.

Yet the demonic hordes of Islamist jihaddis are sweeping across Syria and Iraq – murdering Christians and any that are not in their cult of death in the most brutal ways.  Much of the Western nations have made a “covenant of death” with Islamists and it is up to the people of God to cry out to break the continuing slaughter of humanity by these anti-Christ spirits.  Please read David Davis’ fuller comments inside the attached PDF Weekly Summary.

Down in Ashdod close to the origin of all the missiles firing out of Gaza, Israel Pochtar writes about “the incessant rocket fire, continuous sound of sirens interceptions and explosions in the air, the running in and out of shelter” – and how they all enjoyed the peace of the 72-hour cease fire.   We do not know what will happen tomorrow as the cease fire ends, but pray that God will grant Israel’s leaders wisdom from His throne on what to do in the negotiations with Hamas.  Everyone in Israel is well aware that there will be no permanent ceasefire until Hamas is removed from Gaza.

Steven Khoury, an Arab pastor from Bethlehem – a minister under great threat from Islamists in the Palestinian territories, came for a visit with Pochtar’s congregation.  It was a meeting that was clearly touched Pochtar, as well as the people they called on to bless with an offering from Khoury’s church. The love and support of the Jewish believers in Ashdod is a witness of the true peace of the one new man reconciled together in the Messiah.  You can read more about their visit and also other special war time relief projects that Pochtar’s congregation is doing to help those greatly stressed by the warfare.

One thing you don’t think about is how many Israelis, especially those who live nearer to Gaza, have come to a complete stop in being able to work for their living. Do you like Israeli rock? How about a brand new music video called Desert Storms by Avner and Daniel Boskey?  “The words of the prophets are written on Middle Eastern walls”

Arni Klein of Emmaus Way in the Galilee writes, “Trying to convince someone of the obvious is insane. ... Anyone that does not see the obvious simply doesn’t want to.  Yasser Arafat receiving the Nobel Peace Prize was difficult to comprehend.  We have now descended to a totally other level.  The UN has spoken about bringing Israel up on charges of war crimes because we did not provide our enemy with the ability to defend themselves against us.” 

The UN has gotten away with being considered a legitimate voice of condemnation of Israel for long enough.  Isn’t it time that the international Church set a prayer beam on the corrupt nature of the UN, that they would be exposed and hampered in their attempts to demonize the just?

Arni also writes about the Hamas tunnels and what the spiritual parallels might be for all of us believers. He asks, “What if this battle on the ground is really about something spiritual? … What if this is not just about natural Israel but also about the Body of Messiah …. the Church? … What if the key to opening the well of revival is preparing the way of the Lord … in Israel?”  What will we do about that?  Read more inside the attached PDF Weekly Summary

From the Tel Aviv congregation Tiferet Yeshua, Ron Cantor writes about one formerly orthodox young man who came to faith and a few weeks ago was immersed (baptized) in the Mediterranean during a 1-day ceasefire with Hamas.  Ron wants the believers in the nations to see that precious fruit is being brought forth in the Israeli congregations, who will also disciple those coming into the future spiritual leaders, as they contend for revival in their communities. 

We extend out condolences to Maala Thomas, who recently lost her mother, a believer in New Zealand. Upon return to Israel, they are responding to the realities of “the horror of war – grieving and broken families on both sides of the conflict and terrible devastation of entire neighborhoods of Gaza.”  Some prayer points from Evan Thomas who leads the Netanya Beit Asaph congregation:

- For grace and wisdom to fulfill our ‘prophetic roles’ as godly peacemakers.

- For the grace to be able to pray for and bless our enemies.

- For the consolation of the families of victims – both Israelis and Palestinians.

- For unity in prayer against a ‘spirit of revenge’ being manifest on both sides of the conflict.

- For a miracle – for Israelis and Palestinians to become a united model of reconciliation for our entire region.

Claude and Michelle Ezagouri of the Morning Star Fellowship in Tiberias write, ”We would like to intensify intercession and form prayer groups especially for this difficult time in Israel. We also intend to apply to a few messianic leaders to convene a joint prayer meeting and see how the Lord leads us. Please pray for God to help us in these matters.”  They also ask prayers for the summer camps for kids and teens to be successful, and for the Lord’s protection for all the children.

Ronit Bender writes about working with a group of from the Faroe Islands that come each year to be hands on help in the ministry. Usually this group has worked with Ronit and her recently deceased husband, Tom, with local Druze children, but this year, she writes, “they helped with the kids in the shelter, moved people to their new home, and helped with many other valuable tasks.”  Ronit also shares the story of how a whole family in Nazareth Illit recently came to faith.  The Lord is moving! Someone we know by name, but who prefers to remain anonymous shares a prophetic vision she recently had while praying in Jerusalem at the Jerusalem Prayer Tower.  She saw a SHIFT! As angels and the praying saints became aligned for war. Then later in the evening a Succat Hallel, she writes, “the call was issued for God to arise to protect His people, to protect the innocent in Isis’s path, and, especially, to protect and defend the Kurds and the Christians.  The call was issued to be ready to march with the Army of God, to be ready to be used however God wanted, wherever He wanted, in every way He wanted, without regard for our own lives, and to stand with the Kurds at all costs. David Lazarus of Beit Immanuel writes about the Yad b’Yad 2014 meeting with Israel and Germany/Austrian youth thatissoon to get underway.  This is annual event begun in 2005 to bring reconciliation between a new generation of believers as they journey together to Auschwitz, Poland. Yeshi Reinhardt whose humanitarian organizations Hands of Mercy and Tents of Victory has been ministering to (among others) the shell shocked citizens of Sderot writes that they are in real need of help:  “The enormous need i​s exhausting our supplies at Hands of Mercy.​ This shortage challenges us to humbly ask for your help.  For five years we have provided food boxes, hot meals, hospital visits, medical supplies, and much more.​ We wish to continue offering Messiah's love to many who yet suffer from this horrific war.”  Find out how you can help inside the attached PDF Weekly Summary

Praying the Headlines

Martin Sarvis in Jerusalem continues to raise prayer for the Kurds who are providing refuge for Iraq’s Christians fleeing the demonic terrorist army of ISIS.  Sarvis writes, “We addressed specifically the situation of those Kurds living in Iraq-of their traditional friendship with the Jewish people; of their longing for an independent nation of their own; of the possibility of close relations between Israel and Iraqi Kurdistan once that independence becomes a reality. And we spoke of the connections already taking place between believers in Israel and houses of prayer in Kurdistan. . . . We present for your prayerful attention an assessment of what is taking place, written this past Saturday by our friend Michael Kerem, who has journeyed many times between Israel and Kurdistan.
