Priority Prayer Focus July 30, 2014

Once again we are keeping focus on the Israel-Hamas war which means that there are much longer excerpts inside the attached PDF Weekly Summary from the Israeli ministry prayer letters that deal with war specifics.  Some of the usual Arrows from Zion features have been temporarily disbanded in order to make space for the additional war coverage from spiritual perspectives in the Body of Messiah in Israel.  Just as we are about to mail this out we saw that the Israeli Security Council has agreed to continue the war, and not to pull back at this time.  This is a good decision.

Contact information for all the ministries is included inside the attached Weekly Summary.
Arrows from Zion
Strategically Aimed for the Lord’s Harvest in Israel

Arni Klein of Emmaus Way in the Galilee starts us off this week with a prophetic perspective of the current war.  He writes:  “For three weeks, literally day and night, I have been reaching out to the Lord for the/a spiritual perspective of this moment.  I have been literally able to think of nothing else.”

There is no way to do justice to the ground he covers – and we can’t even get it all in this week but it will carry over to next week inside the attached PDF Weekly Summary.  From Arni’s perspective, what Israel is going through is a process that God is taking them through in order to come to the point that they may be saved.

He writes:  “As God fixed Pharaoh on a course to destruction, so has Hamas been strengthened.  (The word translated as “hardened” concerning Pharaoh’s heart in Ex.9:12 actually means “strengthened.”)  Amidst the rising protests over the number of innocent deaths in Gaza, there is still a clear denouncement of Hamas’ methods and tactics by many world leaders. Finally some people are paying attention to the abject evil of using women and children as shields for their tunnels and rockets.”

Continuing, “We are encouraged by the strength and resolve presently being expressed by our leaders.  For them to turn from the world, whether they realize it or not, they are turning to, or at least opening the door for the God of Israel to come in.  As hard as this moment is, we believe it to be just a warm-up for what lies ahead.”   Please continue to read inside the attached PDF Weekly Summary.

From Charlotte and Uzi Lotan in the Samaria Hills, I am playing catch up with a prayer letter that I missed the first time around but posted on my IsraelWatcher blog as soon as I rediscovered it.  You can read it there, When Some of the Wounded IDF Soldiers Open Up – the gist being that as some of the IDF soldiers have been wounded and are being treated in hospitals, their stories of trauma are hard to bottle up.  As a wounded soldier in the Yom Kippur War, Uzi has some insight into how deeply these soldiers are being affected by the atrocities that Hamas is inflicting on its own people.  While the world paints Israel as “heartless” about the innocent Gaza children, it is really Hamas that are the heartless ones about their own people.

Asher Intrater of Revive Israel in Jerusalem also has compassion for the Gaza People on mind.  He writes, “The more compassion we have for the Gazan people, the more we should want to destroy the Hamas dictatorship. The less compassion we have for them, the easier it would be to accept a simple cease fire and let Hamas continue to rule.  Let us remember that God is the YHVH of Armies.  He can give a spirit of victory.  Wars can be won.  Righteousness can prevail. God is not afraid. To this date, He has never lost a war. Yeshua is the Commander of the Armies of Heaven (Exodus 15:2, Joshua 5:13, Revelation 19:11).”

Some Prayer Points from Revive Israel:
•    Pray for the brave Arab Christians in Gaza, Palestine and throughout the Muslim world.

•    Pray for the people of Israel, whom the war is influencing in a deep spiritual way. There is a softening of hearts, a seeking of God, a unity of national identity, and an evaluation of moral values.

•    Pray for continuing wisdom for Netanyahu, Ganz, Yaalon, the cabinet members, and the IDF commanders, as they make difficult decisions concerning strategic, tactical and diplomatic issues.

•    Pray for all the wounded to be healed, especially "I", a young Messianic believer and paratrooper, who attended our congregation in Tel Aviv.

•    Pray for the soldiers of Messianic families serving in the IDF during this war (we estimate about 400).

Martin Sarvis in Jerusalem writes, “A world accustomed to judging success, failure, and fairness "by the numbers" views this huge disparity-and levels blame. It is true that, faced with irrefutable proof, there has this time been more acknowledgment and denunciation by world leaders of Hamas' shameless use of 'human shields'-but in the end "numbers don't lie," and the media in many countries continues to focus upon the agony on the ground in Gaza, with Israel, not Hamas, being the ruthless, "disproportional" perpetrator.”

Many Americans are asking what was US Sec of State John Kerry thinking to propose such a lop-sided cease fire proposal to Israel.  I believe Martin hits the nail on the head when he writes, speaking of the Kerry deal with Qatar presented to Israel: “…a country's efforts to preserve strategic alliances with nations opposed to the Jewish state may in times of crisis affect the integrity of that country's dealings with its Israeli ally herself.”

But the US Legislature and people of the US continue to stand with Israel, this week, Sarvis notes, “an enormous amount of funding will be released from the United States to replace the hundreds of Iron Dome missiles expended by Israel in defending its cities.”  If the Obama administration does not hold it hostage to an unpopular illegal immigrant funding.  Pray that pressure on the White House will force him to release the funds for Iron Dome.

Martin writes, “It is God's grace that the Muslim Brotherhood is no longer in control of Egypt. Although there is certainly no open warmth between Egypt and Israel, at times during the present conflict, the two countries might almost be seen as working together as close allies. On Wednesday night, 23rd July, the Egyptian army thwarted the attack of a suicide bomber running towards an Israeli border post. They also destroyed a truck in the northern Sinai loaded with Grad rockets, smuggled out of Gaza through tunnels, to be fired back into Israel from the Sinai.”

Sarvis adds these Prayer Points:
* That Operation "Protective Edge" would receive divine direction and counsels from On High (Psalm 33:11). That it may be completed as soon as possible-but that everything which "He who watches over Israel" knows needs to be uncovered will be uncovered; everything destroyed, destroyed; everything dismantled, dismantled. That rocket-launching systems, terror tunnels and under-ground command centers would be discovered and neutralized.

*For protection for Israeli troops going into harm's way. pray against traps, ambushes, booby-traps.

*For protection of the innocent; for mercy to be shown when possible. For comfort from God on those who mourn, are bereaved and have suffered loss during this time.

*Zechariah 9:5-7 speaks of this region, how a "king shall perish from Gaza". how God will "cut off the pride of Philistia. I will take away its blood from its mouth, and its abominations from between its teeth." The end-result of deliverance from this violent ruling power is that the people under its dominion shall "be a remnant for our God; it shall be like a clan in Judah!"

*That the spirit power binding the Gazan people will be broken-that even as they are surrounded by a horror of death, destruction, hatred, anger and desolate hopelessness-there would break forth revelation from "The Life-God" -Elohim Chaim-a Light shining in the absolute darkness to lead them to a Father God who loves them and is drawing them to hope and a future.

*Protection over the Arab believers who live (and have endured much persecution) within the Gaza Strip. Pray for encouragement, and signs and wonders in the power of the Holy Spirit.

From Howard Bass in Beer Sheva – close to Gaza and just down the street where many of the wounded are being treated at Soroko Hospital:  “God is not a pacifist, yet has provided the only peace plan to bring all war of every kind, including among animals and from bacteria and viruses, to an end.  … We are called to become disciples of Yeshua/Jesus – not of anyone else, nor of any philosophy or cause or peer group.  Spiritual maturity of believers is seen in our growing in discernment between good and evil. (Heb 5:14)  We must know that our God is good, and that the god of Islam is evil!  Otherwise, we are not going to engage in spiritual warfare any more successfully than we would in carnal warfare if we did not believe that we had a good and righteous need to fight, and to win. “

Continuing, “The bogus claim of disproportionality of numbers of dead persons in Gaza as compared with the number of dead in Israel is irrevelant, and even hypocritical.  Was it proportional when Israel released more than 1000 Palestinian terrorists in order to get back one Israeli soldier from Gaza captured by Hamas?  Was it proportional when Israel released more than 400 terrorists in order to get back three dead Israeli soldiers from Hizbollah in Lebanon? (I also wrote about this matter of proportionality in a peak during the 2009 war in Gaza here and here).

Howard writes, “I write these things with some fear and trepidation:  I am not a 'right-wing fanatic', nor a 'hawk', nor a war-monger, nor against peace.  I write these things to give, I hope, some facts for Bible-believers to pray with understanding, and not to be confused or deceived or ignorant, which contributes to those very things. What must the Holy Spirit do to bring unity -- based on God's truth, God's righteousness, and God's love -- within the Body of Messiah, which is the prayer of our Lord?”

Our one new man unity ultimately will rely on our ability to receive and move in the Truth, which is not relative but is the truth as God sees it.

Eddie Santoro of Ahavat Yeshua congregation in Jerusalem writes, “This has been a couple of very difficult days here in Israel. Yesterday, a day that began with the promise of a cease fire, ten Israeli soldiers were killed, making it the most costly in this already long war.”

Continuing, “At this moment Gaza is being rocked by huge explosions as Israel continues it offensive. The media is reporting that all sides have agreed to another humanitarian cease fire. Will Hamas observe the cease fire or will this be as all the past ceasefires? Even now, the rocket attacks on Israel are continuing. In many ways the decisions that Hamas makes in the coming hours will have a profound effect on what course the government decides to follow; whether to withdraw the troops or to have them remain where they are; to expand the offensive and further weaken Hamas or to launch an all out offensive whose goal would be to destroy Hamas. The security cabinet … decisions they must make are complex and will have long reaching effects.”

Santoro adds these Prayer Points:
Thousands of Israeli men are in danger as they battle in the Gaza Strip. Pray for God's protection on each one of them.   Pray for the families of those who lost loved ones in the current battle

Pray that God would raise up voices of truth to counter the anti-Israel dialogue that is so prevalent.

Pray for wisdom for Israel's leaders as they consider complex decisions.

Pray against an outbreak of Palestinian violence in Judea, Samaria, Jerusalem and Arab towns in other parts of Israel.

Pray for the knowledge of Yeshua to be manifest in the hearts of many, both Jews and Palestinians during this war.  Pray that the Palestinian people would begin to see how they are being exploited by their leaders.

Israel  Pochtar reporting from Beit Hallel in Ashdod right near the Gaza border:  “Three weeks of continuous rocket fire and not having a moment's rest from the sirens, not even at night.  To say these have been challenging days, would be an understatement.  … In the mean time, we haven't stopped doing intense outreach; bringing people humanitarian relief packages, visiting families at home, praying with them and encouraging, especially coming to them with teams from abroad who have just showed an amazing outpouring of love and care. … We can honestly say, the challenges now haven't hindered or stopped us from continuing our ministry work. If anything, we have been trying to do more, while there's greater need, despite somewhat limited resources.”

You can read Pochtar’s testimony inside the attached PDF Weekly Summary were his son and wife were miraculously spared the rain of shrapnel that came down as a rocket was intercepted above their heads!
Praise the Lord!  He also writes about how hard it is to see his little girl who weighs no more than 100 lbs in army gear with a weapon doing her IDF training.  Pray for all the IDF soldiers and their families, and especially lift up those who are believers taking part in this war for God to protect and use them mightily.

Avi and Chaya Mizrachi of the Adonai Roi congregation & Dugit ministry in Tel Aviv send a video of their second ministry trip in the southern hard it communities.  Pray for their protection as they bring relieve to civilians and soldiers in the stress-filled areas close to Gaza where rockets are flying overhead continually.  CLICK TO WATCH

Hannah Weiss of Restorers of Zion translated a story from Ma’ariv that was only published in Hebrew.  This story has seen little coverage in the news media even though it contains blockbuster information. You can read it in full inside the attached PDF Weekly Summary.  Concerning the massive underground tunnel network   Hamas Plan: Hundreds of Terrorists to Burst Out of Tunnels on Rosh Hashana

Israelprayer:  We hope you understand that these War Reports are a little different from our usual Arrows from Zion.  The reason is we know that many of you are not getting good news reports that portray the conflict fairly.  So we are purposely attempting to fill in the gaps for you – not only with prayer points, but also with information you might now otherwise see.

Arrows from Zion
Strategically Aimed for the Lord’s Harvest in Israel

In Week 2 of WAR in Israel we have an outpouring of personal reports from the ministries on how they are being individually touched by the war, prayer requests for their nation and also for what the all recognize as a time when people’s hearts are seeking for those things that only Yeshua can provide. We have to be brief in the Arrows, and keep the attached Weekly Summary limited to 15 pages, but we have tried to give you the unique perspectives and prayer requests in the excerpt we’ve included from the Israeli ministries. Once again we urge you to open the Weekly Summary PDF attached to this email, so you may read information and insight that goes far beyond the TV news or even news publications out of Israel.  The ministries of Israel are God’s workers on the ground in the midst of the battle.

Ayelet Ronen of the Messianic village Yad Hashmona in the Jerusalem ‘suburbs’ – herself a mother of six children – speaks eloquently of the stress visited on the children in the midst of terrible missile alert sirens, and explosions as rockets land nearby.  There is crying, fear and talk as the children question why they have “enemies”.   Yad Hashmona has 5 bomb shelters in their village and Ayelet has her own memories of running to those bomb shelters 24 years ago as an 18-yr old during the Gulf War.  “It is sad to see that our children go through the same reality - only the enemy has a different first name but nothing else has changed.”

Even so, the Yad Hashmona moshav has opened its doors as a place that youth groups in southern Israel can resort to for a few days to get away from danger and the noisy constant alert of missile-fire from Gaza.  In 2 weeks the Ronen’s will be sending off their eldest son to his IDF service.  “Ariel went through a believer's Army preparation program of 10 days with 56 other young Israeli believers. It is called Netzor, meaning protect/uphold.  Those young men and women will all become soldiers in the IDF in the next few months, for 3 years. The program's purpose is to prepare them spiritually for the call to be a testimony of light in the Israeli army and How to be the only believing soldier among the variety of young soldiers of Israel.

“There are about 200 believing soldiers in the Israeli army and many more on reserve duty some of which are called at this very moment, to go to the border of Gaza and prepare for an entry.  They have children and families, work places and duties, but they will serve faithfully the country God gave us that is under this terrible attack. “

Simultaneously Yad Hashmona is under another spiritual attack.  You can read about
Homo-Lesbian Attacks on Yad Hashmonah

Avi & Chaya Mizrachi in Tel Aviv at the Adonai Roi congregation write about how the life of Israelis has become all about air raid sirens and running to the nearest bomb shelter.  Their daughter helping to lead Israeli believers summer camp in Nahariya; during worship services of their Tel Aviv congregation.  In response to to the hard hit southern Israel region, their Dugit ministry are participating in a team taking toys and supplies to those who are living their daily lives in bomb shelters.  Here is a video they sent via Facebook.

Israel Pochtar of the Beit Hallel Ashdod congregation also sends a video shot today by their evangelist who captures an apartment building near his own burning with thick black smoke from a hit by a Gaza missile – one of those fired during the so-called ceasefire that is over shortly after it began because Gaza did not stop firing missiles.  A rocket also fell about 40 meters from their congregation during a prayer meeting.  The whole building rattled and the ceiling came off of the children’s classroom! Thanking God there were no children there at the time – but the damages must now be repaired.  They are also organizing a special trip to the north for their kids to have a necessary get-away break from all the distresses of living so close to the missile launch sites.  Any help – and of course your prayers are welcomed.

Pochtar also notes that the fast of Ramadan has increased the activity of demonic powers behind the Islamist-terrorists.  In contrast, the Messianic congregation is pressing into sharing the Light of the Gospel during this time – just as gross darkness covers the earth, in contrast the Light of the LORD arises on His people.

Leon Mazin of Return to Zion Cener in Haifa asks for prayers “for Israel's security, for its leaders, for the IAF, the reservists and for the country's borders. There is also a possibility of Shavei Tzion congregation hosting families from the South during this stressful situation…. Pray for the civilian populations both in Israel and in Gaza. Pray for quick healing of all sustained wounds.”

Sally Shiff, the lead intercessor for the Kfar Saba HaMaayan congregation is concerned with the potential for fear gripping Israelis:  Pray that Fear would not grip our nation; instead we would turn the God of Israel who is our strong arm. Pray for the continued safety and security of our people, as well as the innocent people in Gaza and that all of Israel (Jew and Arab) will come to the saving knowledge of Jesus!  Pray that Intercessors would rise up and answer the call to prayer and our soldiers would be safe as they go into battle.

Not all Palestinians favor war as the Hydes write from the Tiberias region:  “Recently as I was hitchhiking, a young Arab man picked me up and we spoke about the situation.  He wants nothing to do with terrorism and just wants to live in peace with Jews.  Please   join us in praying for all those who long for peace in our nation to cry out to the Holy One of Israel, our Savior Yeshua, for His peace that passes all understanding.”

They also write, “Our daughter loves to attend Shabbat meetings with other young adults at a local kibbutz. Recently she told us about a conversation in Hebrew between several Israelis.  One said that Christians believe Yeshua is the Messiah, but another said that can't be right.  Then a young woman stood up in front of everyone and said, "It's true.  Yeshua is the Messiah."  Then our daughter said something strange happened.  Everyone just stood there, shaking their heads as if in agreement.  And then it was like a veil returned and they went on talking about other things!”

Many of the Israeli ministries are noticing that the spiritual realm is almost transparent – evil is clearly seen, and so is the truth of the Messiah!  While the masks of evil and the veil of blindness are slipping, this is the greatest time of the Gospel message going out.  Pray that under the prompt of the Holy Spirit believers will share the good news with their neighbors in such need.  Israel is going to stand. The LORD has made that clear – the only “ify” part is how many Jews and Arabs will enter the kingdom in this highly charged spiritual hour.

Orna Greenman who ministers to widows and orphans through her A Sign and A Wonder ministry, also speaks eloquently about how the routine of daily life in Israel has been decimated by the air raid warnings and the need to run to the bomb shelter in 90 seconds.  She is able to make it in 2-10 seconds, but her elderly mom lives two floors above and cannot respond as quickly.  Orna notes that through all the current distress, God is bidding Israelis to remember “there is a God in Heaven.”  Orna says, that as a Ruth to Israel, you can pray for a “spirit of repentance over us all, a deep desire to see His Face”.  Also pray for the innocent citizens of Gaza: they live in hell. They need the Gospel badly.

The Lotan’s of Beit Hallel in the western Samaria Hills have their hearts focused on the children going through the present war.  “If you have never been in this situation yourselves, you may not know the feelings of parents, as they watch the potential trauma that could affect their little children, for many years! We know; Uzi was badly affected by sirens and blackened windows in 1956, during the Kadesh War between Israel & Egypt, when he was only 6 years old. . . . So far, this summer, most children have not had one day without the threat of needing bomb shelters close by.”

One of the volunteers, working with the children, wrote the following song, to calm the children down, and reduce the trauma as much as possible - by making the event of running for shelter look as "normal" as possible. If you have a child this age, we know that you will understand. Perhaps the Lord will lead you to pray for them, during this summer holiday, when they should be free to play, run and have fun in this beautiful world that God has created.  Please take a moment to view this video: it is just 74 seconds long.  Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."  (Matt. 19:14)

From Arad, the Figueras of Hasdey Yeshua congregation write, “Israel has no peace. Enemies are all around us. Biblical praying would be praying for Israel to turn their eyes to God. Turn to Him in their distress. …We need to pray for them to cry out to Him.”  Also, “…as much as we need to pray for the children in Gaza and even for Hamas (Yeshua commanded us to pray for our enemies), we need to pray even more for the people of Israel, as they are a key in these prophetic times. …   Also, you can pray for the relations between Jewish and Arab believers - that in this turmoil, the Lord will reveal himself mightily through His children.”

Howard Bass at the Beer Sheva congregation reports that they had about 50 gather for prayer on Sunday.  “There was a better turnout of Arab leaders than of the Messianic (Jewish) ones.  On the Jewish side, though (but not all are Jewish), we had more who are not 'leaders'.  While we had brothers and sisters from Ariel and Beer Sheva, the rest of those who came were primarily from the Jerusalem and Bethlehem areas.”

Howard explains that other events going on also cut into some of the participation, yet “What we are in need of is for ALL parts of this small country, with its relatively small number of Jewish and Arab believers, to come together in one place.  God willing, this will yet happen!  There were a few persons who had asked if we would be praying for the usual partisan things that each side is so good at; I said, No, so they did not come. It is just this sort of partisan, divisive mindsets that we have to get beyond if we are going to move on, forward, upward.. . . No weapon formed against Israel will succeed; the gates of Sheol/Hades will not prevail against the Church!  Body of Messiah/Christ rise up and unite as more than conquerors in Him who loves us!”

Eitan Shishkoff of Tents of Mercy in the Haifa bay region wrote from the annual summer Katzir youth camp in progress.  Interesting: their theme for the camp was “The End of Days”.  “Of course we had no idea this war would come while equipping the young people to stand during apocalyptic times.”  Some of Eitan’s prayer requests:  1. Pray for the dismantling of Hamas and the utter failure of their declared intent to wipe israel off the map (Psalm 3).  2. Pray for the IDF troops (including our younger son who was called as part of 40,000 reserve troops). Please intercede for their safety, courage and precise coordination, yielding an absolute minimum of civilian casualties in Gaza.  3. Pray for Israeli citizens, that they will be well-protected and turn to God during this unsettling conflict (Psalm 121:3,4).  4. Pray for the residents of Gaza that are caught in a brutal web of deceit, revenge and destruction. May the innocent be protected and may their eyes and hearts be opened to their true Savior and Redeemer.

Ron Cantor of Messiah’s Mandate & Tiferet Yeshua congregation shares a letter from his daughter serving at the Gaza border (w/permission of her commander).  Read it online here.  Also Ron’s article Dispelling Myths

Kobi & Shani Ferguson of Yeshua Israel are thankful for being in a home that has a bomb shelter – you many have even given to their ability to do that in prayers and/or finances.  They write, “Please keep our family in prayer as well as millions of other Israelis as we are being attacked by terrrorists firing hundreds of missiles over our families tonight (7/8/14).  We just heard a "red alert" siren in Jerusalem, and then a few seconds later, we heard a few huge explosions in the distance.”

Stefen Silver of OneForIsrael.org is one of the many believers who has been called up to active duty. While home over Shabbat a few days ago, his wife Keren had begun to have contractions indicating her nearing time of birth.  Pray for the Lord’s perfect timing and protection over them.

Calev Myers of the Jerusalem Institute of Justice writes about their ministry to “lone soldiers”.  These are soldiers, who for various reasons, have no family support groups.  JIJ supplies this support getting these soldiers together for special events, meetings and holidays.

Eddie Santoro who leads the Ahavat Yeshua congregation in Jerusalem sends these prayer points (plus many insights in the current situation that we just don’t have room to share this week):  “Supernatural protection over Israel - No weapon formed against you shall prosper.  Wisdom and right strategy for Israel's military and political leaders.  Protection for the many soldiers that are on the front line.    Stamina for the people of Israel.  Confusion in the camp of the enemy.   A spirit of revelation as Israel seeks out Hamas weapons, leaders and terror infrastructure.   That God, who works all things to the good, would use the current difficulties to open Israeli and Palestinian hearts to the Gospel of Yeshua the Messiah.   Please pray that Israel would stand strong against the growing tide of world judgment as it tries to defend itself.   Pray that other governments would understand that Israel is in a war against terrorists who are uncompromisingly committed to the destruction of Israel.

“Ultimately this is not an isolated battle but part of the ongoing struggle for Israel's existence. The powers of hell are set against this nation, but we declare today that if God is for us, who can stand against us? In Yeshua the Messiah, the Kingdoms of this world are becoming the Kingdoms of our God. The demons of Islam and hell driven Jihadist fighters will not prevail. Each will bow their knee before our King.”

Asher Intrater of Tikkun International/Revive-Israel adds these prayer requests:  “Few as possible innocent citizens, Jews and Arabs, to be killed; Destruction of Hamas; Protection of tiny Christian community in Gaza; Break lies of Jihad brainwashing among Palestinians;  Break lies of Jihad propaganda in international media; Egypt to stay firm against terrorists; and  Arrangement after conflict for peaceful co-existence.”

Inside the attached Weekly Summary are listed two of the groups who do an ongoing primary ministry focus of humanitarian aid in the realm of hospital supplies, or war and terror victim aid.  They are Barry and Batya Segal of Vision for Israel (By the way, Happy birthday today Barry!) and Ye’shi Reinhardt’s Hands of Mercy and Tents of Victory.  This is a great time to give into these ministries – who carry the Messiah in their hearts as they minister to their countrymen.

Most of the Israeli congregations do local humanitarian work, and all of them could use extra material support right now to meet many of the local needs that are coming out of the daily life routines of Israelis all over the country suffering upheaval to various degrees.  Contact and donation information for all the ministries mentioned in Arrows from Zion are contained within the attached Weekly Summary PDF.
